You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a = b-6 ...(i)
a+4 = 1/2(b+4) ...(ii)
substitute equation (i) to (ii)
(b-6)+4 = 1/2(b+4)
b-2 = 1/2(b+4)
2(b-2) = b+4
2b-4 = b+4
unify the components with the same variable
2b-b = 4+4
b = 8, this is amy's brother age. substitute the number to equation (i)
a = 8-6
a = 2
amy's 2 years old and the brother is 8 years old.

Age_Word_Problems/534521: current age of the children is supposed as h
In ten years -> h+10, a child will be three years older than twice her current age -> 2h+3.
h+10 = 2h+3
what is the current age of the child? h = ?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
h+10 = 2h+3
h-2h = 3-10
-h = -7 ---> multiply -1
h = 7
the child's current age is 7.

Age_Word_Problems/535335: a man when asked by his niece how old he was, he replied, My age is now 4x yours, but 5yrs ago it was 5x yours. (he is 80 but how do you solve it)
uncle's age = u , niece's age = n
u = 4n ...(i)
u-5 = 5(n-5) ...(ii)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
substitute equation (i) to (ii)
4n-5 = 5(n-5)
4n-5 = 5n-25
4n-5n= -25+5
-n = -20 --> multiply -1
n = 20
substitute the niece's age to equation(i): u=4n, and we will get that uncle's age was 80, as told.
u = 4n
u = 4(20)
u = 80
