Answer 214240 by TakeishaM(13) About Me  on 2010-04-27 22:00:30 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
subtract 2 from -7...that gives you -9, then divide -9 by -3. X = 3

percentage/297516: In the Stoneridge apartment complex, 35% of the apartments have one bedroom. If there are 49 one bedroom apartments, what is the total number of apartments at Stoneridge?
1 solutions

Answer 214232 by TakeishaM(13) About Me  on 2010-04-27 21:50:42 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
To find the whole, divide the part and the percent. Always but the part as the numerator and the percent as the denominator. 49/35% = 140 total apartments at Stoneridge.

Rectangles/297548: A circular piece of sheet metal has a diameter of 20 in. The edges are to be cut off to form a rectangle of area 90 in . What are the dimensions of the rectangle
1 solutions

Answer 214228 by TakeishaM(13) About Me  on 2010-04-27 21:39:30 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Picture a circle, the length from one side to the next is 20. Now picture just the edges being cut off, the length from one side to next is still 20. Now you know the length is 20 and the area is 90
The formula to find the area of a rectangle is A = L(W)
90 = 20W (now divide 90/20)
the width is 4.5. The dimensions are 4.5 and 20

Rectangles/297550: The area of a rectangle is 440 square cm. What are the possible dimensions?
1 solutions

Answer 214226 by TakeishaM(13) About Me  on 2010-04-27 21:33:15 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Area of rectangle is found by multiplying its length by its width.
Find numbers you can multiple together to get 440. Start by dividing 440 by different whole numbers. For example 440/2 = 220 so one possible dimension is 2 and 220. 440/5 = 88 so another possible dimension is 5 and 88.

Functions/297541: The charge C, for renting an air hammer from Taylor and Son Equipment Rental is a linear function the number of days (n) in the rental period. The charge is
$113 for 2 days and $209 for 5 days.
(a) Write C as a linear function of n. Your equation should look like C= an + b
Where you need to find the values of a + b using the information above as
ordered pairs (2, 113) and (5, 209)

(b) What would the charge be for 4 days
1 solutions

Answer 214223 by TakeishaM(13) About Me  on 2010-04-27 21:27:44 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First, find the slope using the points. Slope (M) = y2-y1/x2-x1
(2,113) (5,209)
M = (209-113)/(5-2)
= 96/3
= 32
Now pick a point, say (2,113). Plug in the x,y and m values in the equation and solve for b
113 = 32(2) + b
113 = 64 + b
113-64 = 64-64+b
49 = b
Your equation is C = 32n + 49
The cost for 4 days...just plug in 4 for n. Multiply 4 times 32 and add that to 49
C = 32(4)+49
C = 177

Functions/297536: A small pizza costs $5.50 plus 85 cents for each topping. Express the total cost C as a function of number of topping t.
a. What is the function for the total cost.
b. Use the function in part (a) to determine the cost of a small pizza with 3 topping.
1 solutions

Answer 214220 by TakeishaM(13) About Me  on 2010-04-27 21:16:50 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This can be written as a linear equation in the form of y=mx+b
The pizza cost starts at 5.50, this is your y-intercept
You are charged .85 for each topping. So your slope is $.85t
A. The equation is C = $.85t + $5.50
B. You have 3 toppings so substitute in 3 for t in the equation.

C =.85(3)+ 5.50
C = $8.05

Coordinate-system/294628: find an equation of the line having the given slope and containing the given point. m= 2/3, (7,-7)
1 solutions

Answer 212442 by TakeishaM(13) About Me  on 2010-04-20 23:17:26 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
y=mx+b
-7=(2/3)(7)+b
-7=4.67+b (subtract 4.67 from both sides)
-11.67=b
y=(2/3)x-11.67

Triangles/294563: what is the perimter in centimeters of an equilateral triangle measuring 84 mm on a side?
1 solutions

Answer 212429 by TakeishaM(13) About Me  on 2010-04-20 22:40:49 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
An equilaterial triangle means all the sides are equal So if 1 side is 84 then the other two sides are 84 also.
84 + 84 + 84 = 252mm

Coordinate-system/294629: write an equation of the line containing the given point and parallel to the given line.(6,-4); 6x-5y=4
1 solutions

Answer 212425 by TakeishaM(13) About Me  on 2010-04-20 22:30:58 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First you need to put your equation in slope intercept form which is y = mx + b
6x-5y=4 (subtract 6x from both sides)
-5y=4-6x (divide both sides by -5; so divide 4 by -5 and -6 by -5)
y=(-4/5)+1.2x
We know that parallel lines have the same slope so the slope of your new line will be 1.2x.
Now solve for b by using the point you were given in the problem (6,-4)
y=mx+b
-4=1.2(6)+b
-4=7.2+b (subtract 7.2 from both sides)
-11.2 = b
The answer is y=1.2x-11.2

Triangles/294633: what is the area of a triangle whose height is half of its base of 16 inches

1 solutions

Answer 212420 by TakeishaM(13) About Me  on 2010-04-20 22:12:01 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the problem says the height is half the base. The base is 16 so half of that is 8. This means the height is 8.
The formula to find the area of a triangle is A = (1/2) x base x height
Now plug in the information you know.
A = (1/2) x 16 x 8
A = 64 inches

Volume/294614: A box has a volume of 144 cubic centimeters. Its height is 6 centimeters, and its width is 2 centimeters less than its length. Find the length of the box.
1 solutions

Answer 212415 by TakeishaM(13) About Me  on 2010-04-20 21:57:53 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
V = length x width x height
you know that V = 144
W = 2
H = 6
Now plug in the values your know
144 = L x 2 x 6
144 = L x 12
Divide both sides by 12 to get L by itself
144/12 = (L x 12)/12
12 = L
Length of the box is 12 centimeters.

Geometry_Word_Problems/294615: what is the height of a triangle whose area is 4 square meters and whose base is 2.5 meters
1 solutions

Answer 212410 by TakeishaM(13) About Me  on 2010-04-20 21:50:37 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A = (1/2) x base x height
You know A = 4
B = 2.5
Now plug in the values into the equation
4 = (1/2) x 2.5 x H
4 = 1.25 x H
Divide both sides by 1.25 to get height by itself
(4/1.25) = (1.25 x H)/1.25
3.2 = H
The height of the triangle is 3.2 meters
