Equations/91269: I have to solve this equation : p + 9 = 2
May I please have some help? 1 solutions
Answer 66245 by THANApHD(104) on 2007-08-02 19:10:32 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
p+9 = 2
u hav to solve for "p". So u got to hav "p" on one side of equal sign and the other side with the numbers
our only obstacle here is 9, which shares the space with "p". So eliminate it.
p+9-9 = 2-9 (subtract 9 from both sides)
p = -7
tada.... u got the answer

Age_Word_Problems/91264: In 7 years, rica's age will exceed BC's age by 14 years. Last year, the sum of their ages was 20. how old is Rica? 1 solutions
Answer 66240 by THANApHD(104) on 2007-08-02 19:01:53 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!let rica's present age is x
let BC's present age is y
so after 7 years
x+7 = y+7+14
x-y = 14 -----------1
last year
x-1+y-1=20
x+y = 22 ----------2
1+2 => 2x = 36
x=18
y=4

Travel_Word_Problems/91267: This question is from textbook beginning algebra
A bus leaves a station at 1 pm, travelling west at an average rate of 44mi/h. At 2 pm on the same day a second bus leaves the same station, travelling east at a rate of 48 mi/h. Approximately at what time will the two busses be 274 mi apart? This is as far as I got in understanding what to do. I realize I'm dealing with d = r * t, So,
44t + 48(t-1) =274
44t+48t-48=274
92t-48=274
92t=322
Help! please.

Quadratic_Equations/89284: The length of a rectangle is 2 cm more than 5 times its width. If the area of the rectangle is 65 cm2, find the dimensions of the rectangle to the nearest thousandth.
Hint: Call the width x. Then the length is 5x + 2. Now write your equation and solve. 1 solutions
Answer 64898 by THANApHD(104) on 2007-07-20 18:30:07 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Call the width x. Then the length is 5x + 2.
Area = length x width
Area = x(5x+2)
65 = x(5x+2)
65-65= 5x^2+2x-65
0= 5x^2+2x-65
Solve for x using quadratic formulae

Polynomials-and-rational-expressions/89336: i need help solving this for x
2(x-5)^2=3 1 solutions
Answer 64894 by THANApHD(104) on 2007-07-20 18:18:26 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!2(x-5)^2=3 First u got to do is make one side equals to zero
So in this, its easy to take the 3 to other side. So subtact 3 from both sides.
2(x-5)^2-3 = 3-3
2(x-5)^2-3 = 0
Now solve the expand the brackets.
2[x^2-10x+25]-3 = 0
2x^2-20x+50-3 = 0
2x^2-20x+47 = 0
use the quadratic formulae to solve for x
x = 6.22 or x=3.78

Circles/77215: The radius of a circle is represented by 3x+2, and the length of the diameter
is 22 centimeters. Find the value of x, in centimeters. 1 solutions
Answer 55328 by THANApHD(104) on 2007-04-06 11:37:51 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
C = 2πr
but r = 3x+2
and π = 22/7(approx)
so 2π(3x+2)= 22
2 x22/7 x(3x+2) = 22
2(3x+2) = 22/22 x 7
6x + 4 = 7
6x = 3
x = 3/6 = 0.5 cm

Numeric_Fractions/77004: Bob did 1/3 of his homework at school. He completed 1/4 of the remaining homework at home before dinner. what fraction remained to be completed after dnner? 1 solutions
Answer 55174 by THANApHD(104) on 2007-04-04 19:28:56 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! so after school the remaining work will be => 1- 1/3 = 2/3
He did 1/4 of the remining work before dinner
So remaing part will be 1-1/4 = 3/4
which equals to => 2/3 x 3/4 of whole the part
= 1/2
So he must do 1/2 of his home work after dinner.

Proportions/54091: This question is from textbook
Hey y'all here is my problem.
A 2 inch length in a scale drawing represents an actual length of 24 feet. What is the scale of the drawing???? I have no idea what to do.. Many thanks if you can solve it! 1 solutions
Answer 36378 by THANApHD(104) on 2006-09-29 20:50:55 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!You know 1 foot = 12 inches
so if 2 inch represents 24 feet then
2 inches : 24 feet
2 inches : 24 * 12 inches
2 inches : 288 inches
1 : 144 ( cuz both sides are with the same sign ( inches)
