Miscellaneous_Word_Problems/191492: Anne buys a plant whose height is 6 cm. The plant is growing at a rate of 2/3 cm per week. When will its height exceed 10 2/3 cm? 1 solutions
Answer 143768 by Mathtut(3670) on 2009-04-16 23:49:20 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!6+(2/3)t>10 2/3.....where t is the number of weeks
:
(2/3)t>4 2/3......subtracting 6 from both sides
:
(2/3)t>14/3........coverting 4 and 2/3 to 14/3
:
 .....multiply both sides by 2/3 to isolate variable t
:
 weeks

Polygons/191612: OK SO the question is ... FInd the measure of one of the exterior angles of a regular polygon with nine sides.
What I tried was S=180(n-2) The steps I took was... S=180(7)
I kept getting 1260. But that is not an anwser. So what is the set up to use, Both to find number of sides and the measure of certain number of sides?? 1 solutions

Money_Word_Problems/191608: This question is from textbook
I need help with this problem, I am taking elementary algebra in college.
Jake borrowed $5000 from two different banks. One bank charges 7% simple interest, and other charges 8.5% simple interest. If the total interest payment is $380, how much did he borrow? 1 solutions
Answer 143747 by Mathtut(3670) on 2009-04-16 21:09:22 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!let x and y be the amounts borrowed at 7% and 8.5 % interest respectively
:
x+y=5000..........eq1
.07x+.085y=380....eq 2
:
rewrite eq 1 to x=5000-y and plug this value into eq 2
:
.07(5000-y)+.085y=380
:
350-.07y+.085y=380
:
.015y=30
:
y=2000 dollars at 8.5%
:
x=5000-y=5000-2000=3000 dollars at 7%

Linear-systems/191534: Find the length and width of a rectangle lot with a perimeter of 70 meters if the length is 5 times more than the width. 1 solutions
Answer 143733 by Mathtut(3670) on 2009-04-16 19:31:22 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!let L and W be the length and width
:
P=2L+2W......eq 1
L=5W.........eq 2
P=70.........eq 3
:
Plug P's value from eq 3 and L's value from eq 2 into eq 1
:
70=2(5W)+2W
:
70=10W+2W
:
70=12W
:
W=70/12=35/6 m
:
L=5(35/6)=175/6 m

Equations/191480: Can you please help me with this one?
Solve by substitution. Determine if the equation is dependent, independent or inconsistant.
y = -3x + 19
y = 2x -1
I'm not sure if I'm doing this right. 1 solutions
Answer 143694 by Mathtut(3670) on 2009-04-16 12:31:25 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!y = -3x + 19.........eq 1
y = 2x -1............eq 2
:
take the value of y from eq 2 and plug it into eq 1
:
2x-1=-3x+19
:
5x=20
:
x=4
:
now take x's found value and plug it into either equationa and solve for y. I will use eq 2
:
y=2(4)-1=7
:
(4,7) is the solution meaning this is a consistent and independent system since the is one a only one solution
