You can put this solution on YOUR website!x - 3 < -4 or 2x = 2 > 3........I am assuming that was suppose to be a + sign
:
x<-1 or 2x+2>3
:
x<-1 or 2x>1
:
x<-1 or x>1/2

Miscellaneous_Word_Problems/179076: A grocer combines coffee that costs $8.00 per pound with coffee that costs $3.00 per pound. how many pounds of each should be used to make 80 lbs of a blend that costs $5.00 per pound? i am suppose to have an equation for this also
thank you soo much for helping me out!! 1 solutions
Answer 134021 by Mathtut(3670) on 2009-01-28 19:54:12 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!let x and y be the amount of $8 per pound coffee and $3 per pound coffee respectively
:
x+y=80...........eq 1
8x+3y=5(80)......eq 2
:
rewrite eq 1 to x=80-y and plug it into eq 2
:
8(80-y)+3y=400
:
640-8y+3y=400
:
-5y=-240
:
 pounds of $3 blend
:
 pounds of the $8 blend

You can put this solution on YOUR website!even though this is written as 9/9, I will assume that is not what you intended. When you post problems, it would behoove you to pay attention to order of operations. Remember mult and division take precedent over addition and subtraction. If 9/9 is what you intended my apologies....email me and I will re do it...thanks Mathtut

Linear-equations/179058: Hi! i really need your help. I have to solve the following inequality, write the solution set in interval notation:
3+2(x-1)<5+8(x-2)
Thanks So Much 1 solutions
Answer 134010 by Mathtut(3670) on 2009-01-28 19:03:35 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!3+2(x-1)<5+8(x-2)
:
3+2x-2<5+8x-16....distributed terms
:
1+2x<-11+8x.....collected like terms on either side
:
-6x<-12.....subtracted 8x and 1 from both sides
:
remember that when you divide or multiply an inequality by a negative the inequality has to be reversed

Square-cubic-other-roots/179025: In an ordinary year, there are 365 days.
In a leap year, there are 366 days. There are 24 hours in a day. How many more hours are there in one leap year than in one ordinary year? 1 solutions
Answer 133973 by Mathtut(3670) on 2009-01-28 17:20:28 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!366-365=1 day more in a leap year compared to and ordinary year
:
since there are 24 hours in a day
:
1 day times 24 hours
:
1(24)=24 hours more in a leap year than in an ordinary year

Square-cubic-other-roots/179023: A bushel of apples weighs about 42 pounds. Bills truck can carry 7,000pounds. If he loads 150 bushels of apples, how many more pounds can the truck carry? 1 solutions
Answer 133967 by Mathtut(3670) on 2009-01-28 17:16:21 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!1 bushel apples=42 pounds
:
150 bushels times 42 pounds per bushel
:
150(42)=6300 pounds loaded
:
if he can carry 7000 pounds, then we subtract what he has already loaded(6300)
:
from what he can carry(7000)
:
7000-6300=700 pounds his truck can still carry

Numeric_Fractions/179018: My problem is with multiplying and dividing fractions with variables.
For example 5/1w x 3w/17.When I multiply across I get 15w/17w. Can the w's be
cancelled out and I end up with 15/17 ?
Also 27/8m divided by 9/4m. I know that you have to multiply the 27/8m by the inverse of 4m/9, which is 1 1/2, but do I keep the m ? 1 solutions
Answer 133962 by Mathtut(3670) on 2009-01-28 17:07:05 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!when you invert something you invert everything in the numerator and everything in the denominator..... whether is a number or a variable representing a number.....so 3mn/5ts inverted would be 5ts/3mn
:
 and yes they would cancel
:
27/8m divided by 9/4m

Answer 133944 by Mathtut(3670) on 2009-01-28 16:27:39 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!ok first we must convert these mixed fractions to improper fractions . Improper fractions are of the form whole number and fraction where as improper fractions take the form of a/b.
:
1 1/2 x 5 2/3
2) 1 5/6 divided by 2
3) 2 1/2 divided by 3 1/3
:
1)1 1/2=3/2
5 2/3=17/3
:
multiply
:
2)1 5/6=11/6
2=2/1
:
now invert bottom fraction and multiply
:

:
2 1/2=5/2
3 1/3=10/3
