Linear-systems/554997: Alices restaurant has a total of 205 seats. Th enumber of seats in the non-smoking section is 73 more than twice the number of seats in the smoking section. How many seats are in each section? 1 solutions
Answer 361593 by Maths68(1474) on 2012-01-10 01:49:19 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Alices restaurant has a total of 205 seats. Th enumber of seats in the non-smoking section is 73 more than twice the number of seats in the smoking section. How many seats are in each section?
Number of seats in Smoking Section = x
Th number of seats in the non-smoking section is 73 more than twice the number of seats in the smoking section = 2x+73
Total seats = 205
x+(2x+73)=205
x+2x+73=205
3x+73=205
3x=205-73
3x=132
3x/3=32/3
x=44
Number of seats in Smoking Section = x = 44
Number of seats in the non-smoking section = 2x+73 = 2(44)+73 = 88+73 = 161

Simplfy your answer. Use intergers for any numbers in the expression. 1 solutions
Answer 360991 by Maths68(1474) on 2012-01-07 01:30:18 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Equation of the line slope-intercept form
y=mx+b
Given
Equation of the Given line
9x=5y+2
Rearrange above equation according to slope-intercept form
5y=9x-2
5y/5=(9x-2)/5
y=9/5(x)-2/5
Compare with the equation of line slope-intercept form
Slope of the given = m = 9/5
Since lines are parallel their slope will be same
Slope of the required line = m = 9/5
Point (-2, 8)
We have a point and slope we can get easily the require line equation.
Use Equation of the line point-slope form
m = y2-y1/x2-x1
Put the values in above equation, we have
9/5=(y-8)/(x-(-2))
9/5=(y-8)/(x+2)
9(x+2)=(y-8)5
9x+18=5y-40
9x+18+40=5y
9x+58=5y
(9x+58)/5=5y/5
9/5(x)+58/5=y
y=9/5(x)+58/5
Above equation is the equation of the required line in the form of y=mx+b

Miscellaneous_Word_Problems/553658: A car dealer sold two cars. On the first car he made a 10% profit and on the second car he lost 10%. He sold the cars for $9999 each. What was the overall dollar amount of profit or loss on the two transactions, or did the dealer break even? 1 solutions
Answer 360981 by Maths68(1474) on 2012-01-07 00:51:52 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Total value of two cars = 9999+9999 = 19998
First Car was sold on 10% profit = 9999*10/100=99990/100=999.90
Second Car was sold on 10% loss = 9999*10/100=99990/100=999.90
Total amount of two cars after sale = (value of first car + profit)+ (Value of Second car - loss)
Total amount of two cars after sale = (9999+999.90)+(9999-999.90)
Total amount of two cars after sale = 10998.90+8999.10
Total amount of two cars after sale = 19998
Total value of two cars before sale= Total value of two cars after sale
19998=19998
Dealer broke even.
