Alices restaurant has a total of 205 seats. Th enumber of seats in the non-smoking section is 73 more than twice the number of seats in the smoking section. How many seats are in each section?

Number of seats in Smoking Section = x
Th number of seats in the non-smoking section is 73 more than twice the number of seats in the smoking section = 2x+73
Total seats = 205
x+(2x+73)=205
x+2x+73=205
3x+73=205
3x=205-73
3x=132
3x/3=32/3
x=44

Number of seats in Smoking Section = x = 44
Number of seats in the non-smoking section = 2x+73 = 2(44)+73 = 88+73 = 161

Polynomials-and-rational-expressions/555016: The length of a rectangle is 3 inches greater than the width.
A. Write a polynomial that represents the area of the rectangle.
B. Find the area of the rectangle when the width is 4 inches.

Answer 361585 by Maths68(1474) About Me  on 2012-01-10 00:37:50 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Length = l
Width = w
The length of a rectangle is 3 inches greater than the width = l = w+3
Area of rectangle = a

A. Write a polynomial that represents the area of the rectangle.
a=lw
a=w(w+3)
a=w^2+3w
w^2+3w-a=0

(B)
Find the area of the rectangle when the width is 4 inches
a=w^2+3w
w=4
a=(4)^2+3(4)
a=16+12
a=28 sq inches

1 solutions

Answer 361583 by Maths68(1474) About Me  on 2012-01-10 00:03:27 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Amount of White paint is used = x
The amount of red paint should be three times the amount of white paint
Amount of Red paint is used = 3x
Amount of Riky's Blush = 264

White paint + Red paint = Riky's Blush
x+3x=264
4x=264
4x/4=264/4
x=66

Amount of White paint is used = x =66 gallons
The amount of red paint should be three times the amount of white paint
Amount of Red paint is used = 3x = 3*66 = 198 gallons

Travel_Word_Problems/554426: how long does it take to walk 3/5 miles
1 solutions

Answer 361329 by Maths68(1474) About Me  on 2012-01-09 00:54:27 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Although walking speeds can vary greatly depending on factors such as height, weight, age, terrain, surface, load, culture, effort, and fitness, the average human walking speed is about 5.0 kilometres per hour (km/h), or about 3.1 miles per hour (mph)."
Speed = 3.1 mph
Distance = 3/5 or 0.6 miles
Time = ?
Time = Distance / speed
Time = 0.6/3.1
Time = 0.1935 hours approximately.

It takes 0.1935 hours or 11.61 minutes to cover 3/5 miles.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Equation of the line slope-intercept form
y=mx+b
Given
Equation of the Given line
9x=5y+2
Rearrange above equation according to slope-intercept form
5y=9x-2
5y/5=(9x-2)/5
y=9/5(x)-2/5
Compare with the equation of line slope-intercept form
Slope of the given = m = 9/5
Since lines are parallel their slope will be same
Slope of the required line = m = 9/5
Point (-2, 8)
We have a point and slope we can get easily the require line equation.
Use Equation of the line point-slope form
m = y2-y1/x2-x1
Put the values in above equation, we have
9/5=(y-8)/(x-(-2))
9/5=(y-8)/(x+2)
9(x+2)=(y-8)5
9x+18=5y-40
9x+18+40=5y
9x+58=5y
(9x+58)/5=5y/5
9/5(x)+58/5=y
y=9/5(x)+58/5
Above equation is the equation of the required line in the form of y=mx+b

What is the slope of this line?

Answer 360985 by Maths68(1474) About Me  on 2012-01-07 01:06:17 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
When
x-intercept = 4, y=0
y-intercept = -2, x=0
So we have two points
Points (4,0) and (0,-2)
Put the values of above points in the equation of straight line point-slope form
m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
m=(-2-0)/(0-4)
m=-2/-4
m=1/2
Slope the line is 1/2
Equation will be
y=mx+b
y=x/2-2

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Total value of two cars = 9999+9999 = 19998
First Car was sold on 10% profit = 9999*10/100=99990/100=999.90
Second Car was sold on 10% loss = 9999*10/100=99990/100=999.90

Total amount of two cars after sale = (value of first car + profit)+ (Value of Second car - loss)
Total amount of two cars after sale = (9999+999.90)+(9999-999.90)
Total amount of two cars after sale = 10998.90+8999.10
Total amount of two cars after sale = 19998

Total value of two cars before sale= Total value of two cars after sale
19998=19998

Dealer broke even.

Functions/553482: Solve by elimination method 2r - 5s = -14 5r + 2s = 52 what is the solution of the system
1 solutions

Answer 360887 by Maths68(1474) About Me  on 2012-01-06 12:23:23 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2r - 5s = -14......(1)
5r + 2s = 52.......(2)
Multiply (1) by 5 and (2) by 2
10r-25s=-70.....(3)
10r+4s=104.......(4)
Subtract (4) from (3)
10r-25s=-70
-10r-4s=-104
------------------
-29s=-174
-29s/-29=-174/-29
s=6
Put the value of s in (1)
2r - 5s = -14......(1)
2r - 5(6) = -14
2r - 30 = -14
2r=-14+30
2r=16
2r/2=16/2
r=8
Solution Set
(r,s)=(8,6)

Check
=====
Put the value of r and s in (2)
5r + 2s = 52.......(2)
5(8) + 2(6) = 52
40+12=58
52=52
