Graphs/25999: how do you graph y=1/3x+1
1 solutions

Answer 13971 by Linz(9) About Me  on 2006-01-30 18:37:29 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Notice this is in slope-intercept form.
1 is the y-intercept
1/3x is the slope
find 1 on the y-intercept and mark the spot, then use the slope to plot more points. Plot at least three to be sure your line is right. to use the slope 1/3,
you need to start at your first mark and go up 1 and to the right 3 then mark that spot and do it again and draw a line through the points!
Hope this helps!

Systems-of-equations/25902: x^4 - 10x^2 + 9 / x^3 + 4x^2 + 3x
1 solutions

Answer 13919 by Linz(9) About Me  on 2006-01-29 22:41:36 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
For x^4-10x^2+9 we need to factor it to (x^2-9)(x^2-1)
Then factor x^3+4x^2+3x
Since there is an x in each term we can factor it out
x(x^2+4x+3)
We need to factor both top and bottom more.
(x^2-9)(x^2-1)= (x+3)(x-3)and(x+1)(x-1)
x(x^2+4x+3)= x(x+3)(x+1)
then you can cancel out terms that are the same in top and bottom.
We cancel out (x+3) and (x+1) in the top and bottom to get an answer of:
(x-3)(x-1)/x
Hope this helps!

Quadratic_Equations/25895: 11x^2+33x=0
1 solutions

Answer 13918 by Linz(9) About Me  on 2006-01-29 22:06:48 (Show Source):

I belive this is how to solve your equation.
11x(x+3)=0
then you have to make each term equal to zero:
11x=0 x+3=0
for 11x=0 you divide by 11 on both sides which equals 0. x=0
then for x+3=0 you subtract 3 from both sides to get x by itself.
x= -3
Then you want to check the answers in the original problem to see if they are right!
Hope this helps!

Polynomials-and-rational-expressions/25390: Please help!
Find the product: (2x+6)(x-10)
1 solutions

Answer 13609 by Linz(9) About Me  on 2006-01-24 23:16:37 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Use the FOIL method to find the product.
You need to multiply the firsts, outers, inners, and lasts.
(2x+6)(x-10)
the firsts are, 2x(x)=2x^2
the outers are, 2x(-10)=-20x
the inners are, 6(x)=6x
the lasts are, 6(-10)=-60
THEN..you need to add like terms.
2x^2-20x+6x-60=
2x^2-14x-60
You can factor this more, but I am not sure if that's what you need to do. You can e-mail me and let me know if you need more help.

Linear-equations/25070: 0=-3x^2+5x
1 solutions

Answer 13474 by Linz(9) About Me  on 2006-01-22 19:49:36 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-3x^2= 9x
because -3x times -3x= a positive 9x
So: 0=9x+5x
Then we need to solve for x
9x=0 divide both sides by 9
x=0
5x=0 divide both sides by 5
x=0
I'm not sure if this is the answer you are looking for, but this is what I would do with this problem.
Hope it is right!!

Evaluation_Word_Problems/25129: I hate story problems I just don't get them.
The actual distance from Fargo,ND to minneapolis,MD is 240 miles. if the scale
on a map is 1 inch=20 miles, how long on the map connecting the two cities?

Answer 13473 by Linz(9) About Me  on 2006-01-22 19:30:34 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I don't care for word problems either, but this one is actually pretty simple.
You should divide 240 by 20=12
the answer to this is the answer to your problem.
12 inches on the map connects the two cities.
Hope this helps!

Equations/25114: I am a parent trying to help my 8th grader. Could you please help me explain how to work this equation: 4(5c+3)-3(4c-6)=110......I think it would be
20c+12-12c+18=110 but then what do we do?
1 solutions

Answer 13472 by Linz(9) About Me  on 2006-01-22 19:17:54 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If you are trying to find the value of c:
You did the first part right. Now you need to combine like terms.
20c-12c=8c
18+12=30
(your equation should look like this)
8c+30=110
then we need to isolate the variable,so..
subtract 30 from both sides of the equal sign.
8C=80
then divide both sides by 8
80 divided by 8 is 10
So c=10
Hope this helps!!

test/24664: A silver necklace originaly priced at $45.50 is on sale for 1/5 off. what is the sale price?

thanku!
1 solutions

Answer 13155 by Linz(9) About Me  on 2006-01-17 15:54:56 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1/5 is = to 20%
so, you multiply 45.50 by 20%
45.50*20%=9.10
Then you subract 9.10 from 45.50
45.50-9.10=36.40
So the sale price is $36.40
