logarithm/493072: Alright, the question is log base 3 2x+log base 3 7= log base 3 28.
I know that the answer is 2, but i have no clue how to get to it. I tried canceling out the log base 3 part since they are all the same, and then it came out to 2x+7=28 and solved that, but then x would equal 10.5z please help! 1 solutions

Rate-of-work-word-problems/489756: If 3 people can do a job in 20 hours how long would it take 4 people to do the same job.
I tried a ratio: 3 is to 4 as 20 is to x (3/4 =20/x) = 60/4x divide each side by 4 and x is 15. Am I on the right track? 1 solutions
Answer 333747 by Gogonati(809) on 2011-09-01 12:45:24 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! You are on the right track because the quantities in this problem are into inverse proportion.
x*y=k<=>k=20*3=60, and 4*x=60<=> x=15.

Numbers_Word_Problems/488409: Two different numbers are made up of the same two digits. The sum of the digits is 8 and the difference between the numbers is 36. Find the numbers. 1 solutions
Answer 333383 by Gogonati(809) on 2011-08-30 16:46:22 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Let the first digit be x and the second digit be y. Since the sum of the digits is 8, we write the first equation of the system: x+y=8.
Since the difference between the numbers is 36 we write the second equation:
10x+y-(10y+x)=36, simplifying this equation we get:
10(x-y)-(x-y)=36
(x-y)(10-1)=36
9(x-y)=36
x-y=4, is the second equation of the system:
Solving this system we get: x=6, and y=2
Answer: The numbers are 62 and 26.

Age_Word_Problems/488434: Craig is 24 years younger than his mother. Together their ages total 56 years. How is each person? Explain how you found your answer. I need help why this question i have been trying for one hour to do it. 1 solutions
Answer 333370 by Gogonati(809) on 2011-08-30 16:13:48 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Let mother's age be x years , then Craig's age is x-24 years. Since together their ages total is 56 years, we write the equation:
x+x-24=56, solving this equation we get mother's age.
2x-24=56
2x-24+24=56+24
2x=80 divide both sides by 2, and get x=40.
Answer:Mother's age is 40, and Craig's age is 40-24= 16.

Linear-equations/486515: Write the slope-intercept equation for the line that passes through (-7, 6) and is perpendicular to -7x + 9y = -2 1 solutions
Answer 332562 by Gogonati(809) on 2011-08-26 16:39:10 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! We write the equation -7x+9y=-2 in the slope intercept form
As we know perpendicular lines have reciprocal negatives slopes.
Therefore we must find the equation of a line with slope -9/7 through the point
(-7, 6). This equation is given by the formula ,
substituting we get: . Simplifying this equation we get:
, what is the required equation.
