Linear-equations/345402: how do you graph Y<2x+2

Answer 247002 by Fombitz(13828) About Me  on 2010-09-19 22:21:25 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Graph the line y=2x%2B2
Y intercept is (0,2).
Another point on the line using the slope would be:
x:0%2B1=1
y:2%2B2=4
(1,4)
.
.
.
Plot the points and the line.

.
.
.
Choose a point not on the line; (0,0) is a good choice.
Now test the inequality.
If the point satisfies the inequality, that region is the solution region.
If not, then it's the region that doesn't contain the point that is the solution region.
y%3C2x%2B2

0%3C2
True, shade the region that contains (0,0).

Let A be the amount of 40% solution and B the amount of 25% solution.
Volume equation:
1.A%2BB=136
.
.
Concentration equation:
40A%2B25B=33%28136%29
2.40A%2B25B=4488
Multiply eq. 1 by (-40) and add to eq. 2,

Answer 246836 by Fombitz(13828) About Me  on 2010-09-19 09:06:12 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Use 1 equation to get one variable in terms of the other.
Then substitute into the remaining equation.
1.x+%2B+y+=+4
2.++2x+%2B+4y+=+5
From eq. 1,
x=4-y
Substitute into eq. 2,
2%284-y%29%2B4y=5
8-2y%2B4y=5
8%2B2y=5
2y=-3
highlight%28y=-3%2F2%29
Now that you have y solve for x
x=4-%28-3%2F2%29
x=8%2F2%2B3%2F2

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Plug in each value and see which value or values make it true.
I'll do one, you do the rest.
.
.
.
(0,2)
3x+6y=2
3%280%29%2B6%282%29=2
0%2B12=2
12=2
False, so (0,2) is not a point on the line.
Do the same for the remaining 3 points.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You have to expand all of the products and get one big equation.
Then match the coefficients of the terms.

A%28x%5E2%2B4x%2B3%29%2BB%28x%5E2%2B3x-4%29%2BC%28x%5E2%2B5x%2B6%29=6x%5E2%2B34x%2B46
%28A%2BB%2BC%29x%5E2%2B%284A%2B3B%2B5C%29x%2B%283A-4B%2B6C%29=6x%5E2%2B34x%2B46
So now you have three equations with three unknowns.
A%2BB%2BC=6
4A%2B3B%2B5C=34
3A-4B%2B6C=46
Solve for A,B,C using substitution, elimination, or matrix methods.
