Numeric_Fractions/155757: I need to write in simplest form
3 5/12 - 1 7/12 =
THanks 1 solutions
Answer 114810 by Fombitz(13828) on 2008-09-09 09:56:53 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Change your mixed numbers to fractions.
3 5/12=41/12
1 7/12=19/12
3 5/12 - 1 7/12 = 41/12-19/12
Same denominator, you can subtract.
3 5/12 - 1 7/12 = 41/12-19/12
3 5/12 - 1 7/12 = (41-19)/12
3 5/12 - 1 7/12 = 22/12
3 5/12 - 1 7/12 = (2*11)/(2*6)
3 5/12 - 1 7/12 = 11/6
3 5/12 - 1 7/12 = 1 5/6

Linear_Equations_And_Systems_Word_Problems/155851: Hi, I'm having problems solving this problem. I need to write an equation in either slope-intercept form, or the standard(general)form:
The proper crutch length for someone who has sustained a leg injury and is x inches tall, is given by: y=0.72x+2 (where y is in inches)
a) What is the proper crutch length for someone who is 6 feet tall?
My answer was: y=0.72(6) + 2
= 4.32 + 2
Y= 6.32 if that the correct answer.
Can you help me solve b,c,& d.
b) If someone donates a crutch, which is 40 inches long, to a physical therapy clinic, what should be the height of the patient that the clinic who should receive it?
c) By how much does the length of the crutch increase or decrease for every increase of 1 inch in height of the patient?
d) Graph the equation for x ranging from 30 inches to 100 inches. Choose a suitable scale. 1 solutions
Answer 114809 by Fombitz(13828) on 2008-09-09 09:52:45 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!Watch your units.
It'd be tough for a 6 foot patient to use a 6 inch crutch.
You need to convert the height from feet to inches to use the formula.
6 feet=72 inches

Let's change the equation to make it more meaningful

where CH stands for crutch height (in inches) and PH, patient height (in inches).
a) PH=72

b)CH=40

c) For every inch of PH, CH changes by 0.72.
d)
At 30 inches,

At 100 inches,

Polynomials-and-rational-expressions/155737: what on earth does this mean? How do I either solve it or simplify it or WRITE it?
5x^2 + 28x - 10 / x + 6 or 5x^2 + 28x - 10 over x + 6
thank you, if you know any idea of what I should do with this, I'd appreciate it. 1 solutions
Answer 114804 by Fombitz(13828) on 2008-09-09 09:09:47 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! You would perform a synthetic division of the two polynomials.
Similar to long division but the columns signify terms of degrees of x.
To get 5x^2, I would need to multiply (x+6) by 5x.
That would give me 5x^2+30x.
Subtract that from 5x^2+28x-10 would leave -2x-10.
to get -2x, I would need to multiply (x+6) by (-2)
That would give me -2x-12.
Subtract that from -2x-10 would leave 2.
I can't go any further.
Gather up all of the terms and the remainder.

Reduction-of-unit-multipliers/155843: Hey you doing I'm kinda stuck on this this problem I've tried it several times. I have to use three unit multipliers to convert 576 cubic inches to cubic feet.
I've can up with 192 one time and 48 I know when I can up with the anwser 48 I'm only using 1 unit multiplier and when I do 2 I get the same number back again 576 and if I use another I would only get 48 again. I use 1ft over 12in to try and solve is that correct. If anyone could with this problem I'd gradly appreciate it. thanks 1 solutions

You can put this solution on YOUR website!OK, let's pick the domain to go from -5 to 5.
From x=-5 to x=0 (not including x=0), the function is

From x=0 (including x=0) to x=5, the function is

Since for a straight line, we only need two points we will use x=-5,0 for .

Plot those two points, (-5,-4) and (0,1) and draw the straight line connecting them.

Next for the quadratic, we need more that 2 points, we'll pick x=0,1,2,3,4,5.

Plot those and connect those points.
Note the change in scale of the graph.

Also, note the discontinuity at x=0.
