You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1%2F5%2B1%2F8%2B1%2F10%2BM=1
8%2B5%2B4%2B40M=40
40M=40-17
M=17%2F40
Multiply numerator and denominator by 2.5 to get percent.
M=42.5%2F100
Municipal Bonds=17/40 or 42.5%.

Linear-systems/301745: solve each system using the substituion method.
X+y=9
y=x+1

Answer 216365 by Fombitz(13828) About Me  on 2010-05-07 16:21:12 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1.x%2By=9
2.y=x%2B1
Use eq. 2 directly in eq. 1 and solve for x.
x%2B%28x%2B1%29=9
2x%2B1=9
2x=8
highlight_green%28+x=4%29
Now use either equation to solve for y.
y=x%2B1
y=4%2B1
highlight_green%28y=5%29

Graphs/301746: 6x+y=44
6x+7y=28
I do it this way correct:
6x+7y(44-6x)=28
6x=308-42x=28
48x+308=28
co efficient is 48
48x+308=28
48x-336
x=7
y=44 -6(7x)
44-42
y = 2

No, the solution does work.
Test your solution in the original equations.
6x%2By=44+
6%287%29%2B2=44
42%2B2=44
+44=44
.
.
+6x%2B7y=28
+6%287%29%2B7%282%29=28
+42%2B14=28
+56=28
Oops!
.
.
.
An easier way may be like this,
6x=44-y
6x=28-7y
Since they both equal 6x set them equal to each other and solve for y.
44-y=28-7y
6y=-16
y=-8%2F3
Take it from there and solve for x.

Problems-with-consecutive-odd-even-integers/301655: Find 2 consecutive even numbers such that three times the square of the smaller one added to the square of the greater one equals 84.
1 solutions

Answer 216357 by Fombitz(13828) About Me  on 2010-05-07 15:37:54 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let N and N+2 be your consecutive even numbers.
N is the smaller one.
3N%5E2%2B%28N%2B2%29%5E2=84
3N%5E2%2B%28N%5E2%2B4N%2B4%29=84
4N%5E2%2B4N-80=0
N%5E2%2BN-20=0
%28N%2B5%29%28N-4%29=0
Two solutions:
N%2B5=0
N=-5
Although it solves the equation, it's not even.
So it it not a solution.
.
.
N-4=0
N=4
THe two numbers are 4 and 6.

Probability-and-statistics/301727: Suppose that the variable X is normally distributed
with a mean of 200 and a standard deviation of 25.
(i) What proportion of X-values lies between 180 and
205?
(ii) Below what value do 30 per cent of X-values lie?

1 solutions

Answer 216351 by Fombitz(13828) About Me  on 2010-05-07 15:19:43 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Find the z score for 180 and 205.
z%28180%29=%28180-200%29%2F25=-0.8
z%28205%29=%28205-200%29%2F25=0.2
Now lookup the area under the curve for each z score (NORMDIST in EXCEL).
A%28180%29=0.2119
A%28205%29=0.5793
The difference in those is the area of interest to us.
A=0.3674
So almost 37% lies between 180 and 205.

A-B=32
Add the two equations together to get rid of B.
A%2BB%2BA-B=50%2B32
2A=82

B-gallons of 10% solution
Then set up an equation for the total volume of solution.
1.A%2BB=40
Then set up an equation for the concentration of the solution.
20A%2B10B=16%28A%2BB%29=16%2840%29=640
2.2A%2BB=64
Now you have 2 equations in 2 unknowns.

Calculate the volume of a cylinder 5 inches high with a diameter of 20 feet.
Convert all units to yards first.
H=5 inches=5in (1 yd/36 in)= 0.167 yd
D=20 ft=20 ft(1 yd/3 ft)= 6.67 yd
Volume of a cylinder is,
V=pi%2AD%5E2%2AH=pi%2A6.67%5E2%2A0.167=23.34
Now you have 23.34 cubic yds of concrete and it costs $45 per cubic yd.
P=23.34%2A45=1050.34
.
.
.
It will cost $1050.34 for the concrete.

Make a circle.
Mark a point on the circumference.
Rotate that circle about its center 360 degrees or 2pi radians.
That point just traveled the full length of the circumference.
Similarly if you rotated any part of a full revolution you could calculate that distance as a portion of the circumference.
Set up a ratio.
Distance traveled is to the circumference as angle is to (2pi).
D%2FC=A%2F%282%2Api%29
D=A%2AC%2F%282%2Api%29
The circumference based on the radius is,
C=2%2Api%2AR=2%2Api%2A4=8%2Api
The angle traveled is,
A=%287%2F8%29pi
Therefore the distance traveled is,
D=%28%287%2F8%29%2Api%2A8%2Api%29%2F%282%2Api%29
D=%28%287%2Fcross%288%29%29%2Api%2Across%288%29%2Across%28pi%29%29%2F%282%2Across%28pi%29%29
D=%287%2F2%29pi or approximately 11.0(10.995) inches.

What are the issues?
What part are you lost on? Please be specific.
It's a pretty straightforward question.
Pick three x values greater than 1: 2,3,4.
Three x values between zero and 1: (1/8),(1/4), (1/2)
Include x=1.
Evaluate the function at those points.
Use a calculator or EXCEL.
x=%281%2F8%29, y=log%285%2F8%29=-0.204
x=%281%2F4%29, y=log%285%2F4%29=+0.097
x=%281%2F2%29, y=log%285%2F2%29=+0.398
x=1, y=log%285%29=+0.699
x=2, y=log%2810%29=+1
x=3, y=log%2815%29=+1.176
x=4, y=log%2820%29=+1.301
Now plot the x-y pairs.

If you look at the graph, there is a limit as x approaches 0 which would be a vertical asymptote at x=0.
That's the only one.
