Rectangles/563805: the width of the rectangle shown is 18 inches.the length is 4 feet.what is the area of the rectangle in square feet?

1 solutions

Answer 365057 by Earlsdon(6287) About Me  on 2012-01-27 21:34:39 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Convert 18 inches to feet by dividing it by 12.
18%2F12+=+1.5ft.
Now multiply 1.5 ft by 4 ft to get the area.
A+=+1.5%284%29
A+=+6sq.ft.

Answer 365055 by Earlsdon(6287) About Me  on 2012-01-27 21:23:23 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
f%28x%29+=+25x%5E2%2B10x%2B1 Rewrite this as:
y+=+25x%5E2%2B10x%2B1
To get y = 1 as you did, you must have let x = 0, why? because:
y+=+25%280%296%2B10%280%29%2B1
y+=+1
So the ordered pair is: (0, 1)
And if you solved this quadratic equation, you would get:
y+=+25x%5E2%2B10x%2B1 Set y = 0.
25x%5E2%2B10x%2B1+=+0 Factor the left side.
%285x%2B1%29%285x%2B1%29+=+0 so...
x+=+-1%2F5 which is a double solution.
So when y+=+0, x+=+-1%2F5, the ordered pair would be: (-1%2F5,0)
But note that there is an infinite number of ordered pairs that satisfy this equation.

Conjunction/563420: Hi there. Could you help me with this probability question please....

Polygons/560370: The sum of a regular polygon's angle measures is 1440 degrees.
What is the measure of one of the angles of the regular polygon?
1 solutions

Answer 363862 by Earlsdon(6287) About Me  on 2012-01-21 15:45:31 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The sum (S) of the interior angles of a polygon of n sides is given by:
S+=+%28n-2%29180 and S is given as 1440 so...
%28n-2%29180+=+1440 Divide both sides by 180.
n-2+=+8 Add 2 to both sides.
n+=+10 The regular polygon has 10 sides.
An interior angle (A) of a regular polygon of n sides is given by:
A+=+%28n-1%29180%2Fn But %28n-2%29180+=+1440 and n = 10:
A+=+1440%2F10
A+=+144degrees.

expressions/559664: please help me solve this equation -8 + 5 (g + 2) + -2
1 solutions

Answer 363497 by Earlsdon(6287) About Me  on 2012-01-19 17:23:54 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First, this is not an equation, it's an expression and you can't "solve" an expression.
Did you want to simplify this expression?
-8+5(g+2)+(-2) First, apply the distributive property to the middle term.
-8+5g+10+(-2) Now combine like-terms.
-8+10-2+5g simplify.
0+5g
The answer is 5g.

Graphs/559671: write a rule for linear functions with graphs containing the foollowing pairs of points.
(-6,4) and (3,-8)
1 solutions

Answer 363495 by Earlsdon(6287) About Me  on 2012-01-19 17:16:58 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You could write the rule in the form of a "slope-intercept" linear equation: y+=+mx%2Bb by finding the slope;
m+=+%28y%5B2%5D-y%5B1%5D%29%2F%28x%5B2%5D-x%5B1%5D%29 Use the x- and y-coordinates of the two given points (-6, 4) and (3, -8) as the inputs.
m+=+%28-8-4%29%2F%283-%28-6%29%29
m+=+%28-12%29%2F9
m+=+-4%2F3 so you have:
y+=+%28-4%2F3%29x%2Bb To find b, substitute the x- and y-coordintes from either one of the given points. Say (3, -8).
-8+=+%28-4%2F3%29%2A3%2Bb
-8+=+-4%2Bb Add 4 to both sides.
-4+=+b now you write the finished equation (rule):
y+=+%28-4%2F3%29x-4

Surface-area/559493: The perimeter of a square is 1 foot, how many square inches cover it's area?

Answer 363440 by Earlsdon(6287) About Me  on 2012-01-19 11:25:36 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1 square foot = (12")*(12")square inches = 144 square inches.
----------------------------------------------------------
The above answer is not correct. I was thinking that the square was 1 foot on a side, but if the perimeter is 1 foot, then the side must measure one fourth of that, or 3 inches.
The area of a 3-inch square would be 3" X 3" = 9 square inches.
My apologies for the mistake.

Answer 363068 by Earlsdon(6287) About Me  on 2012-01-17 15:43:31 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = the required number of gallons of pure juce (100% juice) to be added to the 6 gallons of 50% juice mixture.
0.5(6)+x = 0.6(x+6) Simplify.
3+x = 0.6x+3.6 Subtract 0.6x from both sides.
3+0.4x = 3.6 Subtract 3 from both sides.
0.4x = 0.6 Finally, divide both sides by 0.4
x = 1.5 gallons.

this is the problem: Larry Mitchell invested part of his 40,000 advance at 4% annual simple interest and the rest 3% annual simple interest. If both account was 1,330 Find the amount invested at each rate
1 solutions

Answer 362958 by Earlsdon(6287) About Me  on 2012-01-16 21:28:30 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = the amount invested at 4% then the rest (40,000-x) is the amount invested at 3%. The earnings on these two amounts is given as 1,330.
This situation can be expressed by the following equation, after converting the percentages to their decimal equivalents:
0.04x+0.03(40,000-x) = 1,330 Simplify.
0.04x+1200-0.03x = 1,330
0.01x+1200 = 1,330 Subtract 1200 from both sides.
0.01x = 130 Divide both sides by 0.01
x = 13000 and 40,000-x = 27,000
Larry Mitchell invested 13,000 at 4% and 27,000 at 3%.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
For the expression to be undefined, it is necessary for the denominator be equal to zero.
9%2F%285x%2B1%29 Set the denominator equal to zero and solve for x.
5x%2B1+=+0 Subtract 1 from both sides.
5x+=+-1 Divide by 5.
x+=+-1%2F5
For x+=+-1%2F5 the expression is undefined.
9%2F%285x%2B1%29 Substitute x+=+-1%2F5
9%2F%285%28-1%2F5%29%2B1%29+=+9%2F%28-1%2B1%29=9%2F0 Undefined!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If x = the amount Jen invested at 10%, then the remainder (6000-x) was invested at 5%. The earnings on these two amounts are equal, so...
0.1x = 0.05(6000-x) Simplify and solve for x.
0.1x = 300-0.05x Add 0.05x to both sides.
0.15x = 300 Divide both sides by 0.15
x = 2000 and 6000-x = 4000
The interest earned on the $2000 at 10% = 0.1(2000) = $200
The interest earned on the $4000 at 5% = 0.05(4000) = $200
The total interest earned = $400

Geometric_formulas/557664: If the formula for Volume of a cone is v=1/3*pi*r^2*h how do I find for h or r?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
V+=+%281%2F3%29pi%2Ar%5E2%2Ah To solve for h, divide both sides by %281%2F3%29pi%2Ar%5E2
h+=+V%2F%28%281%2F3%29pi%2Ar%5E2%29 Simplify:
h+=+3V%2F%28pi%2Ar%5E2%29
V+=+%281%2F3%29pi%2Ar%5E2%2Ah To solve for r, divide both sides by %281%2F3%29pi%2Ah:
r%5E2+=+V%2F%28%281%2F3%29pi%2Ah%29 Simplify:
r%5E2+=+3V%2F%28pi%2Ah%29 Now take the square root of both sides.
r+=+sqrt%283V%2F%28pi%2Ah%29%29

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let n be the number you are looking for.
The quotient of a number (that's n) and 3 is expressed by:
n%2F3 but you need four more than that so you just add 4 to get:
n%2F3+%2B+4+=+11 Multiply through by 3 to clear the fraction.
3%2An%2F3+%2B+3%2A4+=+3%2A11 Simplify.
n%2B12+=+33 Subtract 12 from both sides.
n+=+21

Money_Word_Problems/557477: in planning her retirement, lliza deposits some money at 4% interest, with twice as much deposited at 4.5%. find the amount deposited at each rate in the total annual interest income is 2340.

Answer 362625 by Earlsdon(6287) About Me  on 2012-01-15 12:13:44 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If x = the smaller amount deposited and 2x = the larger amount, you can express the earnings on these two amounts, after converting the percentages to their decimal equivalents, as follows:
0.04x+0.045(2x) = 2340 Simplify and solve for x.
0.04x+0.09x = 2340
0.13x = 2340
x = 18000 and...
2x = 36000
So Lliza(?) deposited 18,000 (dollars or pounds or...?) at 4% interest and 36,000 at 4.5% interest.

Mixture_Word_Problems/557444: You have 30L of a 60% acid solution, how many liters of acid do you need to add to have a solution that has a concentration of 80%?
1 solutions

Answer 362608 by Earlsdon(6287) About Me  on 2012-01-15 10:26:54 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = the required number of liters of acid to be added to the 30 liters of 60% acid solution to obtain 30+x liters of 80% acid solution.
You can set up the equation to solve for x like this:
30(0.6)+x = (30+x)(0.8) Simplify and solve for x.
18+x = 24+0.8x Subtract 0.8x from both sides.
18+0.2x = 24 Now subtract 18 from both sides.
0.2x = 6 Finally, divide both sides by 0.2
x = 30 liters.

Answer 362607 by Earlsdon(6287) About Me  on 2012-01-15 10:13:31 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Start with:
P = 2(L+W) as the formula for the perimeter, P, of a rectangle with length, L, and width, W.
P = 2(L+W) Substitute P = 1000 and L = 5W.
1000 = 2(5W+W) Simplify.
1000 = 2(6W)
1000 = 12W Divide both sides by 12.
W+=+831%2F3 and...
L+=+5%2883%291%2F3
L+=+4162%2F3
