-1/4x-2+1/2x+1=x+15 ************************-(-1/4*8) = +2
3/4x-1=x+15

Linear-equations/574559: 9. Write the equation of a line that passes through the given point and has the given slope. Then write the equation in slopeintercept form. Show all your work.
Passes through (–5, 6) and has slope of 3
Passes through (4, 0) and has slope of 1/2
Passes through (3, –2) and has slope of –4

Take Note
You can check your answer
by first checking that the
given slope and the slope in
your equation are the same.
Then substitute the ordered
pair into your equation and
show that it is a solution.

================
i = prt is (sort of) the formula for continuous compounding, but this says simple interest.
----
If the interest was paid on 12000 the first year, then 7000 for 2 years:
9350 = r*12000 + 2r*7000 = 26000r
r = 9350/26000 =~ 0.3596
--> 36% interest, a good rate. Is he a shylock?

His bike has wheels of diameter 85cm.
He has invented a counter for his bike,
which counts the number of revelations the wheel makes.
One day the counter shows 240 revolutions.
How far has billy cycled?
give your answer to the nearest metre.
---------------
Circumference = pi*85 cm
d = 240*85*pi = 20400*pi cm = 204*pi meters
d =~ 641 meters
------------------
You can buy those for ~ $20, they show speed and distance. No need to invent it. It works well on bicycles, but adapting it to rollerblades is not easy.

Find an equation of the line in slope-intercept form that passes
through each given set of points. Show all your work.
(–2, 2) and (1, 5)
--------------
Find the slope, m
m = diffy/diffx = (2-5)/(-2-1)
m = 1
------
Use y = mx + b and either point to find b
5 = 1*1 + b
b = 4
-----
--> y = x + 4
--------------------
You can use determinants:
|+x y 1|
|-2 2 1| = 0
|+1 5 1|
---------------------
x*(2-5) - y*(-2-1) + 1*(-10-2) = 0
-3x + 3y = 12
x - y = -4
======================
Do these the same way.
(1, 7) and (3, 2)
(–3, 1) and (8, 1)

Flying to Moscow with a tailwind a plane averaged 142 km/h. On the return trip the plane only averaged 76 km/h while flying back into the same wind. Find the speed of the plane in still air and the speed of the wind.
-------------
The plane's airspeed is the average = (142 + 76)/2 = 109 km/hr
The windspeed is the difference = 142 - 109 = 33 km/hr
----------------
That's a slow plane, cars would pass it on the road going upwind or downwind.
142 km/hr =~ 85 mi/hr
----------
Also, planes don't use km/hr, they use knots.
