How do you Solve the equation 3(m+1)+2(m+2)=52 ??????
----------
3(m+1) = 3m+3
Multiply the other binomial by the 2.
Collect terms.
Isolate m.

Please help solve this equation (y-3)^2/25 - (x-2)^2/16 = 1
-----------
You have 1 eqn with 2 variables, x & y.
There are an infinite # of solutions.
Pick a value for x and find y.

Expressions-with-variables/580080: If sailcloth costs $10 per square foot, what is the cost of a new mainsail?
Before solving this problem let's review the
Pythagorean Theorem. This theorem relates
the lengths of the three sides of a right triangle.
A right triangle has a 90º angle. The side opposite
the 90º angle is called the hypotenuse and the
other sides are called legs.

The Pythagorean theorem states that for every right triangle,
the sum of the squares of the legs is equal to the square of the hypotenuse.

a2 + b2 = c2

Now solve the problem:

The mainsail on the sailboat shown below is a right triangle in which the
hypotenuse is called the leech. If sailcloth costs $10 per square foot,
what is the cost of a new mainsail?

Hint: To find the cost of the sail, you need to know the area of the sail. You must
first find the base (x) of the mainsail using the Pythagorean Theorem. Once
you have found the value of x then find the area of the sail by using the
formula for the area of a triangle: 1/2 base times height; A= ½bh .

x

Leech IS 13 ft

If the hypotenuse is 13 and one side is 12, the 3rd side is 5 feet.

Area = b*h/2 = 5*12/2 = 30 sq ft

A train went 400 miles from city A to city B at a speed of 80 mph . At what speed should it travel on the way back if wants to have an average speed of 96 mph for the entire round-trip journey ?
I got answer 112.
x = 2nd speed.
(80+x)/2=96
x = 112
but some say it should be 120. How?
---------------------------
Averaging two speeds like that, (s1 + s2)/2 doesn't work, because more time is spent moving at the lower speed.
------------
A train went 400 miles from city A to city B at a speed of 80 mph . At what speed should it travel on the way back if wants to have an average speed of 96 mph for the entire round-trip journey ?
------------
It went 400 miles at 80 mi/hr = 5 hours
800 miles @ 96 mi/hr = 800/96 = 25/3 hours for the round trip.
25/3 - 5 = 10/3 hours to return
400 mi/(10/3)hr = 120 mi/hr
----------------
PS The avg speed of a round-trip (or 2 equal distances) is
2*v1*v2/(v1 + v2) where v1 and v2 are the 2 speeds.
For this one,
avg = 2*80*120/(80 + 120) = 96 mi/hr

one circular table has a diameter of 9ft and another circular table has a diamter of 20ft. how much greater is the larger table
-------------------
How much greater what?
Circumference = pi*d
C9 = 9pi
C20 = 20pi
------------
Area+=+pi%2Ar%5E2
A9 = 81pi/4 = 20.25 sq ft
A20 = 100pi sq ft
--------
The area of the 20ft is (20/9)^2 times the area of the 9 ft.
The difference in area = 100pi - 20.25pi = 79.75pi sq ft

------------
It's already solved, y = -2
-----
If you mean evaluate the polynomial at y = -2:
6y%5E4+-+5y%5E3+%2B3y%2B1 at y= -2
= 6%2A%28-2%29%5E4+-+5%2A%28-2%29%5E3+%2B+3%28-2%29+%2B+1
= 96 + 40 - 6 + 1
= 131

Albert Einstein also showed that the weight (mass) of an object increases when travelling near the speed of light.
Actually, he showed that mass increases with speed.
-------------------
If a persons weight on earth is Wo, then the same persons weight W in a spaceship travelling at velocity V is
W(V) = Wo divided by the square root of 1-(v/c)squared
A) evaluate W when v=0.6c and Wo= 220
W+=+Wo%2Fsqrt%281-%28v%2Fc%29%5E2%29
W+=+220%2Fsqrt%281+-+%280.6%29%5E2%29
W = 220/sqrt(0.64) = 220/0.8
W = 275
----------------
B) interpret your result
The faster you go, the more your mass.

I need to translate this statement into symbols. "The number of hours it takes to paint a house is inversely proportional to the number of people painting."
I believe the answer is "t equals n over k"
N being the number of workers and T being the numbers of house.
--------------------
t = k/n I think
t = # of hours
k = a constant, varies with the size of the house
n = # of people
--> more people working means fewer hours
--------------------------
T being the numbers of house.
The address? What "numbers of house." ?
