solve and check each equation. Begin your work by rewriting each equation without fractions.
x/5 - 4 = -6
Begin your work by rewriting each equation without fractions.
Mupltiply thru by 5 to eliminate fractions.
x - 20 = -30
Add 20

Sam leaves for the store on his skateboard at 8 mph. His skateboard breaks when he gets to the store, so he immediately goes home at a speed of 4 mph. What is the round trip distance if it took 2 hours?
---------------
Avg speed for the round trip = 2*8*4/(8+4) = 64/12
Avg = 16/3 mi/hr
d = r*t = 2*16/3
RT distance = 32/3 miles

A truck was able to average only 40 mph for the first 4 hours of a delivery route. How long must the driver travel at a speed of 55 mph to average 50 mph for the trip?
-------------------------
d = r*t
r = d/t
r = (40*4 + 55t)/(t+4) = 50 ..... (t = time at 55 mi/hr)
55t + 160 = 50t + 200
t = 8 hours at 55 mi/hr

I need to solve this by factoring and show my work
(y-2/3)^2=4/9
------------------
Get the square root of both sides.
y-2/3 = 2/3
and
y-2/3 = -2/3

the answer is 3,960 feet per minute.
-------------
I don't know what 0.5/50 mi/hr means, but
3960 ft/min = 3960*15/(22*60) mi/hr
= 45 mi/hr

Find the greatest possible pair of integers such that one integer is 3 more than twice the other and their sum is less than 42.
----------------
n + 2n+3 < 42
3n + 3 < 42
3n < 39
n < 13
--> 12 & 27
12 + 27 = 39
============
The next greater pair is
13 & 29
13 + 29 = 42 (not less than 42, doesn't work)

A regular polygon has 39 sides.what is the size of each interior angle?
--------------
The sum = 180*(n-2) = 180*37 = 6660 degs
Each angle = 6660/39 = 2220/13 degs
=~ 170.769 degs
-------------------
Or do it this way.
Each exterior angle = 360/39 = 120/13 degs
Int = 180 - Ext = 2220/13 degs

How do I graph the equation 2x+5y=10?
-----------------
It's a straight line, so you need 2 points.
Easiest way to find 2 points is to set x=0, find y.
Then y=0, find x.
Plot the 2 points.
Draw a line thru them.

If a line has the points (4,y) and (16,8), with a slope of -2/3, what is y?
--------------------
Slope, m = diffy/diffx = (y-8)/(4-16) = -2/3
(y-8)/12 = -2/3
3(y-8) = -24
y-8 = -8
y = 0
