test/694504: Solve the equation

4^-x=1/256
1 solutions

Answer 427976 by Alan3354(30993) About Me  on 2012-12-15 09:33:32 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4^-x=1/256
-----------
1%2F%284%5E%28-x%29%29+=+1%2F%281%2F256%29
4%5Ex+=+256
x = 4
-------------
If you don't recognize that 4^4 = 256, then
x*log(4) = log(256)
x = log(256)/log(4)

How many different five-card hands can be dealt from a deck that has only clubs(13 cards altogether)?
-----------------------
13*12*11*10*9 = 154440
----
But, since 2,3,4,5,6 is the same as 2,4,5,6,3, divide by 5!
154440/120 = 1287 hands

Find all complex z which solve z^9=-1
-----------
Use DeMoivre's Theorem
z^9 = -1 = 1cis(180 + n*360)
z = 1cis(20)
z = 1cis(60)
--------
z = 1cis(20 + n*40) n = 0 to 8

Could you please solve this sum :
32 to the power x = 2 ; find x
-----------------
It's not a sum.
Sums are not solved, equations are solved.
--------
32%5Ex+=+2
Solve for x
x*log(32) = log(2)
x = log(2)/log(32)
x = 0.2

How would you solve the problem:
b + s= 12
1.25b + 1.50s = 16
---------------
I would multiply the 2nd eqn by 4 to eliminate fractions.
Then, I'd solve the 1st eqn for either b or s and use substitution.

--------------------------
1st, don't put so much personal info in public, there are bad people everywhere.
=============
-2 + y =1
-4x +2y=-6
------------
Did you mean
-2x + y =1
-4x +2y=-6 ?
===============
-4x +2y = 2
-4x +2y =-6
-------------- Subtract
0 = 8
That's not true, so it's inconsistent.
--> no solution
===================
If you graph the 2 equations, you get parallel lines.
No intersection, no solution.

I have a square sign 20 feet in the air. How do I calculate the length of the sides of the square sign without getting up 20 feet in the air to measure it?
--------------
There's no way to calculate physical measurements of an object.
You might be able to measure it indirectly.
Measure some distance from the support, then measure the angles to the top and bottom of the sign.
The height can be determined from that, but accuracy and resolution might not be sufficient.
