logarithm/711421: I can't figure this out.
First of all, the 4's in this problem are down at the bottom (like the opposite of an exponent) I can't remember what they are called.
It says, log4(x+7)= log4 14
tiny fours at the bottom of each log.
Thanks!

The area can't be 175 feet, that's not a unit of area.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"Two buses leave Atlanta at the same time, one traveling west at 40 miles per hour and the other traveling north at 30 miles per hour. When will they be 400 miles apart?"
-----------------
Their paths form a right triangle.
At t hours after departure,
the westbound bus is 40t miles away, the northbound is 30t miles away.
----
d%5E2+=+%2830t%29%5E2+%2B+%2840t%29%5E2+=+2500t%5E2
d = 50t
----
400 = 50t
t = 8 hours
----------------
You can use the speeds in a similar manner
v%5E2+=+40%5E2+%2B+30%5E2+=+2500
v = 50 mi/hr
t = 400/50 = 8 hours

Triangles/711269: Hi, I had a math test today and we were allowed to go back and finish up since our class period was shortened. There was one problem I did not understand and it went something like this:
Find the like of the third side of the obtuse triangle with the longest side 36 and one of the legs 4.
(Those numbers were just made up)
I know that c^2 > a^2 + b^2 then the triangle is obtuse. But I also know that to find the range of the third side you would need to do: a + b = d and a - b = e, leaving you with e < x < d (Let x be any number within the given range). I just don't know how to find the range for the obtuse triangle. Thank you so much!

Find the like of the third side of the obtuse triangle with the longest side 36 and one of the legs 4.
(Those numbers were just made up)
--------------
Do you mean length?
It has to be less than the sum of 36 & 4, < 40
----
To be obtuse, s^2 > 36^2 + 4^2
--> s > sqrt(1312)
-----------------------------
sqrt(1312) < s < 40

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Convert -5pi/2 radians into degrees (report answer between 0 and 360 degrees)
----------
-5pi/2*(180/pi) = -450 degs
Add 360 repeatedly until you get a + number
150 + 360 = -90
-90 + 360 = 270 degs
