the wavelength(W) of a radio wave varies inversely as its frequency(F). A wave with a frequency of 200kHz has a length of 252m. What is the length of a wave with a frequency of 900kHz?
------------------
200*252 = k (a constant)
L*900 = k = 50400
L = 50400/900 = 56 meters
-----------------
-----------------
That's the answer given the data, but it's not correct.
The wavelength in meters is 300/f, f = frequency in Megahertz.
200 KHz = 0.2 MHz
300/0.2 = 1500 meters,
not 252 meters

Complex_Numbers/236214: Hello,
I'm to find the third roots of 343i written in polar form with arguments in radians. I don't know how to approach this one. Is it actually "0 + 343i"? If so, I find the absolute value to be 343. Then tan (b/a) = tan (343/0) which is undefined. How do I find the angles?
Please help me as I'm lost...

--------------
It is 0 + 343i, and r = 343.
The angle is 90, but you don't need the tangent
z = 0 + 343i = 343cis90
--------
Cube roots are:
7cis30 = 7cis(pi/6) = 7cos(30) + 7isin(30) = 7sqrt(3)/3 + 3i/2
---------------------
Do these 2 the same way.
7cis150 = 7cis(5pi/6)
7cis270 = 7cis(2pi/3)

cos(x)/(tan(x)+sec(x))
= cos/((sin/cos) + 1/cos)
= cos^2/(sin + 1)
= (1-sin^2)/(1+sin)
= (1-sin)*(1+sin)/(1+sin)
= 1 - sin(x)

Four angles of a pentagon have measures 30, 60, 120, and 165. Find the measure of the fifth angle.
-----------
The sum of the angles of any polygon with n sides is
180*(n-2)
A pentagon has 5 sides. 180*(3) = 540º
30 + 60 + 120 + 165 = 385º
The 5th angle is 540 - 385
= 155º

----------------
10 min = 1/6 hour
Joe goes 1 mile in 1/6 hour - he's one mile ahead.
----------------------
To overtake him in 20 minutes (1/3 hour) Ken has to go 3 mph faster (1 mile in 1/3 hour = 3 mph)
Ken has to go 9 mph

1-2 + 3 -4 + ....-98 + 99 equals
a) -50 b) -49 c) 0 d) 49 e) 50
----------
There are 99 numbers
Pair them up:
1+99 = 100
-2-98 = -100
3+97 = 100
etc.
The pairs are alternately +100 and -100, until you get to -50. It has nothing to pair with, so the sum is
-50

------------
Is that pi*t ?
The expression is not clear. It could be
(1/(pit)) - 5 - (3/pit) + 5
or 1/(pit-5) - 3/(pit+5), or some other combinations.
Use some parentheses, they're free.

The 2nd eqn is 7 times the 1st, so they're dependent.
1 eqn in 2 unknowns is a line, with an infinite number of solutions.
-----------
BTW, (7,7) is not a solution.

Jeb has 25 coins. They are all quarters and nickels. He has a total of $2.85. How many quarters and nickels does he have?
-------------------
n + q = 25 (25 coins)
5n + 25q = 285 (value of coins)
--------------
2 eqns in 2 unknowns
q = 25-n (from eqn 1)
Sub for q into eqn 2
--------------
5n + 25(25-n) = 285
5n + 625 - 25n = 285
-20n = -340
n = 17 nickels
q = 8

cos 33pi\4.
-------------
32pi/4 = 8pi which is 4 revolutions. Subtract that.
--> cos(pi/4) = sqrt(2)/2
I didn't use a calculator, I know that one.
It's 1/8 of a revolution, or 45º.
If you plot it on a unit circle, x and y are equal, and r is x*sqrt(2)
cos = x/r = sqrt(2)/2
