You can put this solution on YOUR website!
An object is projected directly upward from the ground. After t seconds its distance in feet above the ground is s = 144t – 16t2.
a. After how many seconds will the object be 128 feet above the ground?
128 = 144t - 16t^2
-16t^2 + 144t - 128 = 0
-t^2 + 9t - 8 = 0
t = 3, 6
3 seconds going up
6 seconds coming down
----------------------
b. When does the object strike the ground?
144t - 16t^2 = 0
t = 0 (at launch)
t = 9 seconds (at impact)

Two of the angles of a heptagon are 150 degrees. The other 5 angles are all y. What is the value of y?
-------------------
A heptagon has 7 sides. The total of the angles is 180*(n-2) = 900 degrees.
900 - 2*150 = 600
600/5 = 120 degrees = y

Two plumbers worked a combined 22 hours on a job. One plumber makes $22 per hour, and the other plumber makes $18 per hour. If their combined pay for this job was $448, how many hours did each work?
--------------
P1 + P2 = 22 hours
P1*22 + P2*18 = 448
-------------------
P2 = 22 - P1
Sub for P2 in the 2nd eqn
P1*22 + 18*(22-P1) = 448
4P1 = 52
P1 worked 13 hours
P2 worked 9 hours

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Solve the system of equations by graphing, then classify the system
6x+y=7
7x+8y=-26
----------
They're 2 linear equations, so their graphs are straight lines.
2 points is sufficient to plot a line.
6x+y=7
y = 7-6x
Pick 2 values for x and find y
x...y
0...7 --> (0,7)
1...1 --> (1,1)
Plot those 2 points and draw a line thru them.
---------
Do the same for the other eqn. Where they intersect is the solution.

How do I calculate side BC of an Isosceles triangle when the two equal sides AB and AC are 12 and angle A [BAC] is 130°??
-----------------
You can use the Law of Sines:
a/sin(A) = b/sin(B)
Angles B and C are 25 degs (since it's an isosceles)
a = 12*sin(130)/sin(25)
a =~ 21.75
----------------------
You can also drop an altitude from A. Then a/2 = 12*sin(65)
a = 24*sin(65)
a =~ 21.75 (again, it's monotonous)

Solved by pluggable solver: SOLVE quadratic equation (work shown, graph etc)
Quadratic equation ax%5E2%2Bbx%2Bc=0 (in our case -16x%5E2%2B13x%2B8+=+0) has the following solutons:

x%5B12%5D+=+%28b%2B-sqrt%28+b%5E2-4ac+%29%29%2F2%5Ca

For these solutions to exist, the discriminant b%5E2-4ac should not be a negative number.

First, we need to compute the discriminant b%5E2-4ac: b%5E2-4ac=%2813%29%5E2-4%2A-16%2A8=681.

Discriminant d=681 is greater than zero. That means that there are two solutions: +x%5B12%5D+=+%28-13%2B-sqrt%28+681+%29%29%2F2%5Ca.

x%5B1%5D+=+%28-%2813%29%2Bsqrt%28+681+%29%29%2F2%5C-16+=+-0.409249271918743
x%5B2%5D+=+%28-%2813%29-sqrt%28+681+%29%29%2F2%5C-16+=+1.22174927191874

Quadratic expression -16x%5E2%2B13x%2B8 can be factored:

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Write an equation of the line containing the specified point and parallel to the indicated line (3,-4), 5x-6y=4
-----------------
First, find the slope, m, of the line. To do that, put it into slope-intercept form y = mx + b. That means solve for y.
5x-6y=4
y = (5/6)x + something, doesn't matter.
The slope is 5/6
All lines parallel to it have the same slope.
-----------------
Use y = mx + b and the point to find b:
-4 = (5/6)*3 + b
b = -13/2
--> y = (5/6)x - 13/2 is parallel and thru the point.
