How do I graph y-2x=-4. I don't understand how I know where to put it on the graph.
------------
It's a straight line, so you need to plot 2 points.
y-2x=-4
y = 2x - 4
Pick 2 values of x and find y, eg x = 0, y = -4 --> (0,-4)
Pick another value for x.
Plot the 2 points, draw a line thru them.

1/(x + 7/2) is "simple."
"Simplified" can be a matter of opinion.
Stop working on the equation, whatever it might be, and work on this.

y=x-4 (I know the answer would be 4,-4, but I'm not sure why that would be correct.
-------------
y = x - 4 has an infinite # of "answers"
Pick a number for x and find y.
-----------
As for (4,-4), that's not one of them
If x = 4, then y = 4-4 = 0 --> (4,0)
--------------
If you graph it, you get a straight line, and every point on it is a solution, or answer.

*************It's not x^2, it's cos^2*************
----------------
2cos^2 - 1 = cos
2cos^2 - cos - 1 = 0
(2cos + 1)*(cos - 1) = 0
cos = 1
x = 0 + n*180 degs, n = +/1 0,1,2,3...

2cos = -1
x = 120 + n*360 n = +/1 0,1,2,3...
x = 240 + n*360 n = +/1 0,1,2,3...

Answer 434088 by Alan3354(30983) About Me  on 2013-01-21 14:02:29 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Use the slope and y-intercept to graph the linear function.
y = -6x
------------------
The y-intercept is zero, the Origin (0,0).
y = -6x + 0 in slope-int form.
----------------------
(0,0) is one point.
For each increase in x of 1, y changes -6
On the x-y plane, count 1 to the right and 6 down for the 2nd point.
Draw a line thru them.

Determine if these points are parallel, perpendicular, or neither. 3x-4y=2 and 4x-3y=3
--------------------
Those are not points, they're equations of straight lines.
----
Solve for y:
3x-4y=2
y = (3/4)x - 1/2
Slope m = 3/4
-------------
4x-3y=3
y = (4/3)x - 1
m = 4/3
============
Equal slopes --> parallel
Inverse negative reciprocal slopes --> perpendicular
=======
3/4 & 4/3 are reciprocals, but not negative --> neither
