Rational-functions/287314: how do i graph the function 2x^2+8x+4
1 solutions

Answer 208241 by Alan3354(31538) About Me  on 2010-03-31 13:58:05 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
It's not possible, since it's not a function. It's a polynomial.
If it were y = 2x^2+8x+4 then you could graph it.
-----------------
Pick values for x and find y. Plot the points, draw a curve thru them.

Polynomials-and-rational-expressions/287081: How do I factor this polynomial?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The airspeed of the plane is the average = (600+500)/2 = 550
The windspeed is the difference = 600 - 550 = 50
----------------
PS Airplanes don't use km/hr, they use knots.
1 knot = 1 nautical mile per hour.

how would i convert one eighth and one ninth into a decimal number rounded to the nearest thousandth?
--------------
1/8 = 0.125
1/9 = 0.11111....
-------------Add
= 0.236
-----------
Or
1/8 + 1/9 = 9/72 + 8/72 = 17/72
=~ 0.236
The first way is easier, you can use a calculator

-------------------
In 10 minutes, Train A goes 40 mph*10/60 hr = 20/3 miles
Train B is moving 20 mph relative to Train A.
20/3 miles/20 miles/hour = 1/3 hour = 20 minutes.
11:20 + 0:20 = 11:40

Given that 2i is a root of the polynomial equation x^4 - 45x^2 - 196 = 0,find the solution set for the equation.
------------
Complex roots occur in conjugate pairs, so -2i is also a root.
(x+2i)*(x-2i) = x^2 + 4
Divide the polynomial by (x^2 + 4) and solve the remaining quadratic.

Sequences-and-series/286846: write the first three terms of the expansion (a-b)^6 i am having difficulty with this. please help
1 solutions

Answer 208014 by Alan3354(31538) About Me  on 2010-03-30 11:22:46 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
write the first three terms of the expansion (a-b)^6
--------------------
Use Pascal's triangle
1
1 1
1 2 1
1 3 3 1
1 4 6 4 1
1 5 10 10 5 1
1 6 15 20 15 6 1 6th power
---------------------------
Notice that each element in the triangle is the sum of 2 above it, so you can fill it in quickly for "small" exponents. I wouldn't do it for an exponent of 50.
Since it's a-b, the signs alternate.
--> a%5E6+-+6a%5E5b+%2B+15a%5E4b%5E2+-+20a%5E3b%5E3
The exponents of a decrease while b's increase.

find the amount owed at the end of 7 years if 2700 is loaned at a rate 8% compounded quarterly.
A=p(1+r/n)^nt
8% per year is 2% per quarter
n = 4
t = 7
r = 0.08
------------
A = 2700*(1 + 0.02)^28
A =~ 4700.77
