You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(2x+3)^1.8=250
---------------
If you don't understand it, how did you get it?
(2x+3)^1.8=250
Take the "1.8 root" of both sides.
The 1.8 root of 250 = 250%5E%281%2F1.8%29
2x+3 = 21.48764863
x =~ 9.2438

My dad tried to help me out on this problem, and he thinks that the answer is 200mph for the speed of the plane, and 15 mph for the speed of the wind. He wasn't sure about it and he couldn't really explain how he did it. So if you could help me out that would be great.

------------------
The groundspeed upwind is 920/4.6 = 200 mph
Downwind, it's 920/4 = 230 mph
The airspeed of the plane is the average of those, = 215 mph.
------------------------
The windspeed is the difference, = 15 mph
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You can do it the hard way:
a = airspeed
w = windspeed
a + w = 920/4 = 230 downwind
a - w = 920/4.6 = 200 upwind
------------------------ Add
2a = 430
a = 215
---------
w = 15

y = -2, x = 30 --> (30,-2)
etc.

How do you solve -i to the 15th power?
--------------
There's nothing to be solved. You can calculate i%5E15
i is the sqrt(-1)
i%5E2+=+-1
i%5E3+=+-i
i%5E4+=+1
i%5E5+=+i
i%5E6+=+-1
i%5E7+=+-i
i%5E8+=+1
i%5E9+=+i
It repeats every 4th power.
15 = 3*4 + 3 --> i^15 = i^3
= -i

A cross-country flight traveling with the wind covers 3000 miles in 5 hours. The same plane then changes direction and travels to Texas, against the wind, covering 1500 miles in 3 hours. What are the wind speed, and the speed of the plane in still air?
------------------------
3000/5 = 600 mph downwind
1500/3 = 500 mph upwind
The average is the airspeed, = 550 mph.
The windspeed is the difference, 50 mph.
---------------------
PS Airplanes use knots, not mph. 1 knot = 1 nautical mile per hour.
"speed in still air" is airspeed.

Quadratic_Equations/297684: I understand how to use the quadratic formula when i'm asked to solve an problem that's straight forward like: x^2+8x+15=0, i can figure out that the answer is {-2/3,4}. I cant understand how to solve the following problem using the quadratic formula:
z^2/1=z/5+6/5

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Explain how you would CHECK that m=2.5 is the correct solution for the equation 5(2m-3)=2(m-2)+5 then show a correct check
----------------------------
Sub 2.5 for m, see if the 2 sides are equal
5(2.5-3) =? 2(2.5-2) + 5
5*-0.5 =? 2*0.5 + 5
-2.5 =? 6 It isnt', so m<>2.5
--------------------------------
5(2m-3)=2(m-2)+5
10m-15 = 2m-4 + 5 = 2m+1
8m-15 = 1
8m = 16
m = 2
------
You can check it as I did.
