You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Solve for T: V= 2P + T divided by T
V = (2P + T)/T
VT = 2P + T
VT - T = 2P
T*(V-1) = 2P
T = 2P/(V-1)

Mixture_Word_Problems/333609: Beau Glaser wishes to strengthen a mixture from 10% alcohol to 30% alcohol. How much pure alcohol should be added to 7 L of 10% mixture?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Beau Glaser wishes to strengthen a mixture from 10% alcohol to 30% alcohol. How much pure alcohol should be added to 7 L of 10% mixture?
--------------------
7 liters of 10% is 90% water = 6.3 liters of water
Adding alcohol to make it 30% alcohol means that 6.3 liters of water will be 70% of the mixture.
---------------
If 6.3 liters = 70%, then 9 liters = 100%
Add 2 liters of alcohol (9 - 7 = 2 liters)

Like that?
x%5E2+%2B+7x+-+14+=+0
Solved by pluggable solver: SOLVE quadratic equation (work shown, graph etc)
Quadratic equation ax%5E2%2Bbx%2Bc=0 (in our case 1x%5E2%2B7x%2B-14+=+0) has the following solutons:

x%5B12%5D+=+%28b%2B-sqrt%28+b%5E2-4ac+%29%29%2F2%5Ca

For these solutions to exist, the discriminant b%5E2-4ac should not be a negative number.

First, we need to compute the discriminant b%5E2-4ac: b%5E2-4ac=%287%29%5E2-4%2A1%2A-14=105.

Discriminant d=105 is greater than zero. That means that there are two solutions: +x%5B12%5D+=+%28-7%2B-sqrt%28+105+%29%29%2F2%5Ca.

x%5B1%5D+=+%28-%287%29%2Bsqrt%28+105+%29%29%2F2%5C1+=+1.6234753829798
x%5B2%5D+=+%28-%287%29-sqrt%28+105+%29%29%2F2%5C1+=+-8.6234753829798

Quadratic expression 1x%5E2%2B7x%2B-14 can be factored:
1x%5E2%2B7x%2B-14+=+%28x-1.6234753829798%29%2A%28x--8.6234753829798%29
Again, the answer is: 1.6234753829798, -8.6234753829798. Here's your graph:

---------
Use determinants.
|i +j +k|
|1 +1 -2| = cross product
|2 -2 -3|
----------
i(-3 - 4) -j(-3 + 4) + k(-2 - 2)
= -7i -j -4k

Rational-functions/333536: Shawn is taking a science test. So far he answered 12 out of 15 questions correctly. then Shawn's teacher tells the class that there are addidtional questions on the back of the test. Shawn answers all of the questions on the back of the test correctly.
If x represents the number of additional questions on the back of the test, which rational expression models the situation?
a. 12+x/15+x
b. 15+x/12+x
c. 12/15*x
d.12/15
I believe that the proper answer would be A. because he got 12/15 right, but then the additional (x) on the back he also got right, so 12x would stand for the questions he got right, while 15x stands for the total problems...I am wondering if someone could tell me if i am correct in this assumption...
thanks in advance

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(x-2)/3+1=2x
Subtract 1
(x-2)/3 = 2x - 1
Multiply by 3
x-2 = 3(2x - 1)
x-2 = 6x - 3
Add 3
x + 1 = 6x
Subtract x
5x = 1
Divide by 5
x = 1/5

If the area of a rectangle was 24 square inches how many combinations of length and width are there? List all the combinations.
------------
There are too many to list, there are an infinite number.
W*L = 24
W = 24/L
Pick any number for L > 0 and L < 24 and find W

It's a straight line, so you need 2 points.
Pick values for x and find y.
Plot the 2 points.
Draw a line thru them.

Graphs/333495: graph the equation

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
solve using the substitution method
8s + 12t = 16
6s + 9t = 12
---------------
Reduce the equations
8s + 12t = 16 --> 2s + 3t = 4
6s + 9t = 12 --> 2s + 3t = 4
---------------
It's the same equation --> no unique solution.
They're dependent --> infinite # of solutions.
----------------
8s + 12t = 16
6s + 9t = 12 --> s = (4-3t)/2
---------------
Sub for s in the 1st eqn
8(4-3t)/2 + 12t = 16
16 - 12t + 12t = 16
16 = 16

Actually, it's the intersection of a plane normal to the axis of the cone, since the base is not defined.

A better definition is the locus of points equidistant from a given point.

Anything to the power of zero = 1, so the 3 angles are each 1º.
That's not possible, something's misunderstood.
