A line and a point example.
Write in standard form the eqation of a line that satisfies the given conditions. Perpendicular to 9x+3y=36, through (1,2)
-----------------
Find the slope of the line. Do that by putting the equation in slope-intercept form, y = mx + b. That means solve for y.
9x+3y = 36
3y= - 9x + 36
y = -3x + 12
The slope, m = -3
------------------
The slope of lines parallel is the same.
The slope of lines perpendicular is the negative inverse, m = +1/3
----------------
Use y = mx + b and the point (1,2) to find b.
2 = (1/3)*1 + b
b = 5/3
The equation is y = (1/3)x + 5/3 (slope-intercept form)
x - 3y = -5 (standard form)
------------------------

simplify
%2810y%5E7%29%5E4+%286y%5E-8%29%5E-3
= 10000y%5E28%2A%28y%5E24%2F216%29
= 10000y%5E52%2F216
= 1250y%5E52%2F27
--------------------
You added the exponents where you should have multiplied.
%28y%5E7%29%5E4+=+y%5E28
----------------------
This is multiplication and what I have so far is
10^4(y^7)^4(1/6)^3(1/y^8)^3 then I got
10000y^11(1/216)(1/y^11)

Tracy leaves for work at 8am, traveling at 36mph. Sarah leaves at 8:05 (going 50mph) to catch her to give her her lunch. At what time will Sarah catch Tracy?
----------------
In 5 minutes, Tracy goes (36/60)*5 miles = 3 miles
Sarah's speed relative to Tracy is 14 mi/hr (50 - 36)
It takes 3/14 hour to catch Tracy, =~ 13 minutes.
8:05 + 13 = 8:18

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The equations of two lines are 2x – y + 3 = 0 and 4x – 2y – 8 = 0. Find the horizontal distance and vertical distance between the two lines.
-------------------
2x – y = -3
2x – y = 4 (2nd eqn divided by 2)
--------
y-int of 1st eqn = 3
y-int of 2nd = -4
Vertical distance = 7
------------------
x-int of 1st = -1.5
x-int of 2nd = 2
Horiz distance = 3.5

Determine the equation of each circle.
a) centre (2,-5) and radius 7
%28x-2%29%5E2+%2B+%28y%2B5%29%5E2+=+7%5E2
--------------------------
b) centre (-1,3) and passing through (4,1)
Find the distance between the 2 points, that's the radius.
Then
%28x%2B1%29%5E2+%2B+%28y-3%29%5E2+=+r%5E2
