x%5E2+%2B+16x+%2B+48+=+0
Solved by pluggable solver: SOLVE quadratic equation (work shown, graph etc)
Quadratic equation ax%5E2%2Bbx%2Bc=0 (in our case 1x%5E2%2B16x%2B48+=+0) has the following solutons:

x%5B12%5D+=+%28b%2B-sqrt%28+b%5E2-4ac+%29%29%2F2%5Ca

For these solutions to exist, the discriminant b%5E2-4ac should not be a negative number.

First, we need to compute the discriminant b%5E2-4ac: b%5E2-4ac=%2816%29%5E2-4%2A1%2A48=64.

Discriminant d=64 is greater than zero. That means that there are two solutions: +x%5B12%5D+=+%28-16%2B-sqrt%28+64+%29%29%2F2%5Ca.

x%5B1%5D+=+%28-%2816%29%2Bsqrt%28+64+%29%29%2F2%5C1+=+-4
x%5B2%5D+=+%28-%2816%29-sqrt%28+64+%29%29%2F2%5C1+=+-12

Quadratic expression 1x%5E2%2B16x%2B48 can be factored:
1x%5E2%2B16x%2B48+=+%28x--4%29%2A%28x--12%29
Again, the answer is: -4, -12. Here's your graph:
graph%28+500%2C+500%2C+-10%2C+10%2C+-20%2C+20%2C+1%2Ax%5E2%2B16%2Ax%2B48+%29

It's not likely anyone will do all those for you, unless you show your efforts.
Maybe not then, but your chances are better.

I don't know.
That cannot be calculated or figured out, it has to be "looked up" somewhere.
We're not here to look things up, but to help with math problems.

The choices greater than 55 are 56, 57, 58, 59 & 60, 5 of them.
5/60 = 1/12

That makes no sense, there's no relation to x.

Complex_Numbers/470931: How do we calculate the real and imaginary parts of (sqrt3 + i)^100 ?
I have tried and my working are as follows:
r = sqrt ((sqrt3)^2 + 1^2) = 2
alpha = arctan (1/sqrt3) = pi/6
Z = r (cos alpha + i sin alpha)
= 2 (cos pi/6 + i sin pi/6)
= 2 e^i(pi/6)
(sqrt3 + i)^100 = (2e^i(pi/6)^100

If the ball reached its maximum height of 106 feet at time t=2.5, what was the height in feet of the ball at t=1 ?
-------------------
Solve for c & d
-------------------
h(t)= c-(d-4t)^2
h(0) = c - d^2 = 6
h(2.5) = c - (d - 10)^2 = 106
-----------------------
c - d^2 = 6
c = d^2 + 6
--------------
c - (d - 10)^2 = 106
c - d^2 + 20d - 100 = 106
Sub for c
d^2+6 - d^2 + 20d = 206
20d = 200
d = 10
--------
c = 106
-------------
h(t) = 106 - (10 - 4t)^2
h(1) = 106 - 6^2
h(1) = 70
