a) find two consecutive off intergers whose product is 783
sqrt(783) = almost 28, the middle --> 27 & 29
----------------
b) find two consecutive even intergers that the sum of their squares is 340
340/2 = 170
sqrt(170) = ~ 13 the middle
--> 12 & 14
------------
PS it's integer, not interger.

how can i calculate average speed
when a plane is flying from one city to another and is 550 miles per hour and is 430 miles per hour on the return flight.
---------------
Average speed for a round trip is similar to parallel resistors, but times 2.
Avg speed = 2*550*430/(550 + 430)
= 473000/980
=~ 482.65 mph
----------
It's always less than the average of the 2 speeds, because more time is spent moving at the lower speed (unless they're the same speed).

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
In 2 hours, the 1st truck goes 90 miles (45 mph * 2 hr)
The 2nd truck gains on the 1st at 15 mph (60 - 45)
90/15 = 6 hours to overtake
1100 + 6hr = 1700 hours

Angles/466036: Find the measure of an angle who supplement measures 39 more than twice its complement.
Like to know if I am setting up the equation properly?
Angle = x
Supplement = 180-x
Complement = 90-x
180-x = 2(90-x)+39
180 = 219
x= 39
Can I also say the supplement is 141 degrees and the complement is 56 degrees even though the problem is not requesting to find them?

Find the measure of an angle who supplement measures 39 more than twice its complement.
-------------
Angle = x
Supplement = 180-x
Complement = 90-x
180-x = 2(90-x)+39
---------- 180 does not equal 219. I think you're subtracting there.
180-x = 180 - 2x + 39
-x = -2x + 39
x = 39 degs
----------------
Supp = 141, comp = 51

Each cubic centimeter of a glass plate weighs 0.3 ounce. If the glass plate measures 40 centimeters long by 35 centimeters wide by 6 centimeters thick.
How much does the plate weigh?
---------------------------
The volume = 40 cm * 35 cm * 6 cm = 8400 cc
Each cc weighs 0.3 ounce
8400 cc * 0.3 ounce/cc = 2520 ounces

If you mean 10 ft diameter, from flat to flat, then
each of the 8 sides are 4.142 ft long.
----------------
It's made of 8 triangles, so the central angles are 45 degs.
5 ft is the altitude.
s = 1/2 the length of the sides.
tan(45/2) = s/5
s = 5*tan(22.5)
2s = 10*tan(22.5) =~ 4.142 ft

Volume/465718: A Cylinder contains ice cream. Its radius is 5 inches and it stands 12 inches tall. The Cool Man Ice Cream Shop sells ice-cream cones. If a cone is 5 inches tall and has a diameter of 3 inches, to the nearest whole number, how many ice-cream cones can be scooped out of the cylinder? Let pie= 3.14

I TRY:
V-cylinder=(3.14)(5)^2(12)=942
Diameter= 1/2(3)=1.5
V-cone=(1/3)(3.14)(1.5)^2(5)=11.775 Diameter= 1/2(3)=1.5

-------------
I'll use the Greek letter pi, not the dessert, pie.
------------------
Vol of cyl = pi%2Ar%5E2%2Ah+=+pi%2A25%2A12+=+300pi+=+942 cubic inches
------------------
Vol of cone = pi%2Ar%5E2%2Ah%2F3+=+pi%2A1.5%5E2%2A5%2F3+=+11.775 cubic inches
The ice cream isn't flush with the top of the cone.
--------------------
Vol of hemisphere on top of the cone = 2*pi*r^3/3 = 2*pi*2.5^3/3 = 10.42pi
Total per cone = 11.775 + 32.708 = 44.48 cubic inches
942/44.48 = 21 cones
-------------------------
I TRY:
V-cylinder=(3.14)(5)^2(12)=942
Diameter= 1/2(3)=1.5
V-cone=(1/3)(3.14)(1.5)^2(5)=11.775 Diameter= 1/2(3)=1.5

Another approach:
The average speed for a round trip is similar to parallel resistors, but times 2.
Avg speed = 2*40*50/(40+50) = 4000/90 mph
r = 400/9 mph
t = 9 hours
d = (400/9)*9 = 400 miles round trip
--> 200 miles one way

No variable is specified, so x is as good as any.

Add --> x+8
Times 2 --> 2(x+8)= 2x+16
g(x) = 2x + 16
--------------
Replace the x with whatever is spec'ed
g(2) = 2*2 + 16 = 20
g(9) = 2*9 + 16 = 34
g(-7) = 2*(-7) + 16 = 2
g(3/2) = 2*3/2 + 16 = 19
g(t) = 2t + 16
