how do you solve 3^2 3^2-2
3^2 = 9, but it's not clear what you mean by that. Use parentheses.
------------------
and how do you solve 2^3-(-1)+4
= 8 + 1 + 4
= 13

There's no "solving" of these, only simplifictation.
Equations are solved, and solved "for something", such as "solve for x", or some other variable.

Trigonometry-basics/476614: Find the solution of the equation for [0,2pi]
2(tan(theta))-(sec^2(theta))=0
Here is what I've done so far:
2tan(x) = sec^2(x)---> I set them equal because of some rule? and replaced theta w/x to make it easier for me to understand.
2(sin(x)/cos(x)) = 1/cos(x)
2 = 1/cos(x) * (cos(x)/sin(x))
2(cos(x)*sin(x)) = 1
(cos(x)*sin(x)) = 1/2
x = ?

Find the solution of the equation for [0,2pi]
2(tan(theta))-(sec^2(theta))=0
Here is what I've done so far:
2tan(x) = sec^2(x)---> I set them equal because of some rule? and replaced theta w/x to make it easier for me to understand.
2(sin(x)/cos(x)) = 1/cos(x) **** What happened to the square on the RHS?
2 = 1/cos(x) * (cos(x)/sin(x))
2(cos(x)*sin(x)) = 1
(cos(x)*sin(x)) = 1/2
x = ?
-------------
2(tan(theta))-(sec^2(theta))=0
2sin(x)/cos(x) - 1/cos^2(x) = 0
Multiply by cos^2
2sin(x)cos(x) - 1 = 0
sin(2x) - 1 = 0
sin(2x) = 1
2x = pi/2, 5pi/2
x = pi/4, 5pi/4
-----------------------
You would have gotten it, but you lost the square of the RHS term.
Then you have to recognize the double angle on the LHS,
sin(2x) = 2sin(x)cos(x)

Maybe you meant square B is 50% of square A ??
Square A is 144 sq inches = 1 sq ft.
Square B is 1/2 that = 0.5 sq ft

Use determinants.
---------------
|x y 1|
|7-6 1| = 0
|2 1 1|
----------
x(-6-1) - y(7-2) + (7+12) = 0
-7x - 5y = -19
7x + 5y = 19

Answer 326468 by Alan3354(30993) About Me  on 2011-07-30 15:31:17 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If 12 men can dig 35 holes in 14 days,
(a) how many men are needed to dig 35 holes in 8 days,
35 holes takes 168 man-days
168 man-days/8 days = 21 men
-----------------------------
(b) how many days would it take 12 men to dig 30 holes?
35 holes takes 168 man-days
--? 168/35 man-days per hole
= 4.8 man-days per hole
4.8*30 = 144 man-days
144 man-days/12 men = 12 days
------------------------------
Keeping the units with the calculations makes it more obvious.
