Find the complement and supplement of an angle with the given measure.
32°20'
I got C: 57° 80'
-------------------
I don't know what C is, but
90 - 32°20' = 57° 40' (there are 60' per degree)
-----
The supplement is the complement + 90

test/738000: Factor x^2+3x-4=50
1 solutions

Answer 450633 by Alan3354(31528) About Me  on 2013-04-15 18:29:51 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Factor x^2+3x-4=50
---------------
Polynomials are factored.
Equations are solved.
This is an equation.
=======================
Factor x^2+3x-4=50 **** That can't be factored.
----
Subtract 50 from both sides.
x^2 + 3x - 54 = 0
Now the left side can be factored.
(x+9)*(x-6) = 0
--> x = -9, x = 6

Polynomials-and-rational-expressions/737925: Please check my answer, I am not sure which is correct
Problem: (2x^4-3x^2+8x-1)-(x^4+3x^3+x+4)
answer: x^4-3x^3-3x^2+7x-5 OR x^4-3x^2+7x-5-3x^3
(x^4)+(-3x^2)+(-3x^3)+(7x)+(-5)=x^4-3x^3-3x^2+7x-5
In what order do results have to be? Which order is correct because I have been it the other way as well.

answer: x^4-3x^3-3x^2+7x-5 OR x^4-3x^2+7x-5-3x^3
The answers are the same, just different order.
Descending order is customary, and expected.
x^4-3x^3-3x^2+7x-5
-----------------------------
(x^4)+(-3x^2)+(-3x^3)+(7x)+(-5)=x^4-3x^3-3x^2+7x-5
In what order do results have to be? Which order is correct because I have been it the other way as well.
-------------
Any order is correct, and they're all the same answer. Descending order makes it easier to do and to check.

---------------
For the faster car:
d = r*t
t = d/r
t = 1000/150 = 20/3 hours
t =~ 6.67 hours
----
For the slower car:
t = 800/70 = 80/7 hours
t =~ 11.43 hours

Solved by pluggable solver: SOLVE quadratic equation (work shown, graph etc)
Quadratic equation ax%5E2%2Bbx%2Bc=0 (in our case 1x%5E2%2B6x%2B-56+=+0) has the following solutons:

x%5B12%5D+=+%28b%2B-sqrt%28+b%5E2-4ac+%29%29%2F2%5Ca

For these solutions to exist, the discriminant b%5E2-4ac should not be a negative number.

First, we need to compute the discriminant b%5E2-4ac: b%5E2-4ac=%286%29%5E2-4%2A1%2A-56=260.

Discriminant d=260 is greater than zero. That means that there are two solutions: +x%5B12%5D+=+%28-6%2B-sqrt%28+260+%29%29%2F2%5Ca.

x%5B1%5D+=+%28-%286%29%2Bsqrt%28+260+%29%29%2F2%5C1+=+5.06225774829855
x%5B2%5D+=+%28-%286%29-sqrt%28+260+%29%29%2F2%5C1+=+-11.0622577482985

Quadratic expression 1x%5E2%2B6x%2B-56 can be factored:
1x%5E2%2B6x%2B-56+=+%28x-5.06225774829855%29%2A%28x--11.0622577482985%29
Again, the answer is: 5.06225774829855, -11.0622577482985. Here's your graph:
graph%28+500%2C+500%2C+-10%2C+10%2C+-20%2C+20%2C+1%2Ax%5E2%2B6%2Ax%2B-56+%29

maximum distance to travel is 16 x (18 cm)
1. convert the dimensions for the wheel and maximum distance to feet.
wheel diameter in feet: = 1.25/12 ft
maximum distance in feet: 16*18 = 288 cm
max d = 288/(2.54*12) = 24/2.54 ft
-----------------
a 5% error in distance is allowed. what is the total distance if the 5% error is applied?
= max d * 0.95
shorter distance with error: = max d * 0.95
longer distance with error: max d * 1.05
--------------------
2. how many times does the wheel turn to travel the maximum distance?
1.25 in = 3.175 cm
Circumference = 3.175*pi cm
# of turns = max d/circumference

if you take into account the 5% error, how does this affect the number of truns of the wheel? Changes by same percent
