If m and n are odd integers, which of the following must also be an odd integer?
a)(m+n) (m-n)
b)m(n+1)
c)mn+1
d)2m+n
-----------
Use m = 5 and n = 7:
a) 12*(-2) = -24
b) 5*6 = 30
c) 5*7+1 = 36
d) 2*5 + 7 = 17
------------
a, b & c are eliminated
Might be d
2*m is an even number.
Adding an odd number, n, --> an odd number.
It's d.

The sum of all the interior and exterior angles of a polygon is 2880. how many sides does the polygon have?
----------------
The easy way:
2880/180 = 16
----------------
The hard way:
The sum of exterior angles is always 360 degs, so the sum of the interior angles is 2520 degs.
------------
sum of int = (n-2)*180 = 2520
n-2 = 2520/180 = 14
n = 16 sides

A boy ran to the store at 6 miles per hour, he walked back at 4 miles per hour. If the roundtrip took hom 10 minutes, how far is the store?
---------------
Avg speed of the round trip is
2*6*4/(6+4) = 4.8 mi/hr
---------
d = r*t = 4.8 mi/hr * (10/60) hr = 0.8 miles round trip
--> 0.4 miles each way

I need to find the intercepts for -4x + 10y = 20.
-----------
The line crosses the y-axis when x = 0.
-4x + 10y = 20.
0 + 10y = 20
y = 2 or (0,2) is the y-int.
----------
The line crosses the x-axis when y = 0.
-4x = 20
x = -5 or (-5,0)

A jet leaves Charlotte, North Carolina, airport traveling at an average rate of 564km/h. Another jet leaves the airport one half hour later traveling at 744km/h in the same direction. How long will the second jet take to overtake the first?
--------------
The 1st plane is 282 km away when the 2nd leaves (564 * 0.5)
The 2nd plane gains on the 1st at 180 km/hr (744 - 564)
282/180 = 1.56667 hours to overtake
= 1 hr 34 minutes

If it's only the 2 tests, 96.
93*2 = 186
186 - 90 = 96.
---------------
(90 + s)/2 = 93
90 + s = 186
s = 96

a high speed bullet train accelerates and decelerates at a rate =6 feet per second square. It's [sic] maximum cruising speed =95mi/h. Find the minimum time that the train takes to travel between two consecutive stations that are =40 miles apart.
----------------
95 mi/hr = 95*22/15 ft/sec = 418/3 ft/sec
------------
The time to accelerate from 0 to 418/3 at 6 ft/sec/sec = (418/3)/6 seconds
= 209/9 seconds at the start and at the end of the trip.
----------
Distance traveled in 209/9 seconds = (1/2)*(209/9)*(418/3) times 2
= 83762/27 feet (apx 1618 ft starting, and 1618 stopping)
--------------
40 miles = 211200 feet
211200 - 3236 = 207964 ft @ 418/3 ft/sec --> 1492.56 seconds at cruise
1492.56 + 2*(209/9) = 1539 seconds
= 25' 39"
-------------
I rode the TGV from Paris to Brussels, it goes 345 mi/hr
PS it's = it is

How many degrees are there in the angle formed by the hands of a clock at 8:30?
--------------
Protracors are "eyeball accurate", not sufficient.
The minute hand is at 180 degs (angles measured from 12)
The hour hand is at (8.5/12)*360 degs = 255 degs
255- 180 = 75 degs between the 2 pointers
