You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If there are 356 beans in a 16 ounce bag, how many beans would there be in a 20 ounce bag?
---------------
356/16 = 22.25 beans/ounce
22.25*20 = 445 beans
===============
356:16::n:20
16n = 356*20
n = 445 beans
============
20 = 16*1.25
356*1.25 = 445 beans
===========
I'm going with 445 beans

Maria drove to a business appointment at 50mph in the morning. Her average speed on the return trip in the afternoon was 40 mph. The return trip took 1/4hr longer because of traffic. How far did she travel to the appointment?
------------------
d = r*t
d = 50t = 40*(t + 0.25)
50t = 40t + 10
t = 1 hour
--------------
d = 50*1 = 50 miles
==================
Notice that the avg speed for the round trip is not the average of 50 and 40.
Why is that?
The avg speed is less, = 44.444... mi/hr, not 45

Answer 366147 by Alan3354(31534) About Me  on 2012-02-01 15:54:02 (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A truck with 48-in.-diameter wheels is traveling at 45 mi/h.
---------
45 mi/hr = 66 ft/sec = 3960 ft/minute
----------
Each revolution = pi*d feet = 4pi feet
(b) How many revolutions per minute do the wheels make?
rev/min
-------------
Each revolution = pi*d feet = 4pi feet
rpm = 3960 ft/min / 4pi feet = 990/pi rpm
=~ 315 rpm
---------------
(a) Find the angular speed of the wheels in rad/min.
rad/min
-------------
rad/min = rpm*2*pi
= 990/pi * (2pi)
= 1980 rad/min

Volume/566216: a box holds 10 cubes of 2 inches cubed. How big is the box?
each cube volume 8 cu.inches
total volume is 80 cu.in.
hence the volume of thebox should be at least 80 cu.in
cube rooting 80 we will get 4 < (cube root of ) 80 < 5
we cannot have 4. something for a side in the cube .
so we take 5 as the box side
so the box size is minimum of 5 inches

cheers

is it possible to draw a right triangle with sides measuring 8 inches, 12 inches, and 18 inches? if so what are the calculations?
-------------
If the square of the longest side = the sum of the squares of the other 2, it's a right triangle.
18^2 = 324
-------
8^2 + 12^2 = 208
Not a right triangle

1. If the radius of a ball is twice that of another, how many times as big is its volume?
8 times.
V1+=+4%2Api%2Ar%5E3%2F3
V2+=+4%2Api%2A%282r%29%5E3%2F3+=+4%2Api%2A8r%5E3%2F2
The volume is related to r^3. (n*r)^3 = n^3*r^3
Volume is a function of the cube of the radius.

2. If the volume is twice that if a blue ball, how many times as big is its radius?
Volume is a function of the cube of the radius.
I don't know about the color, but the radius is root%283%2C2%29 times.

An airplane flying at a constant speed can fly 800 mile with the wind in the same amount of time it can fly 600 mile against the wind. What is the speed of the plane in still air if the wind blows at 50 mph?
------------
a = plane's airspeed
t = d/r
t = 800/(a+50) = 600/(a-50)
----
800a - 40000 = 600a + 30000
200a = 70000
a = 350 mi/hr
