Comment from student: thanks for your time in answering my problem...but out teacher give an answer of 20/273 in order and 20/91 in any order.can you show me how?...help me please i need the solution..t.y
Comment from student: I have redone the question again using your method, but with x/2 instead of x/4 as the question says one-half. I'd tried the two numbers from the solution that you have given and the answer was wrong, i believe you have read the question differently. Please check my working.
x/2 = x-5/6 +8
3x = x-5 + 48
3x - x = -5 +48
2x = 43
X = 21.5
21.5 16.5
10.75. 2.75
The larger number is 21.5 and the smaller number is 16.5 which has a different of 5. The question said one-half of the larger which was 21.5 which equals 10.75 and exceeds one-sixth of the smaller which was 16.5 by 8. One-sixth of 16.5 is 2.75 and the different between 10.75 and 2.75 is 8.
I believe that is the answer and I thank you again for sharing the method with me.
Comment from student: Sorry to disturb you again, but isn't one-half x/2 not x/4. I'm a bit confused now
Comment from student: Thank you so much! The explanation was so much help!
Comment from student: Thank you
I'd just have a question, of how did 'x/4=(x-5)/6+8' turns into '3x=2(x-5)+96.
