Comment from student: Thanks so much for your help!! My problem (or confusion!) was in (3) and (4). I was not reducing "s" by 2d only d. I see now that -d only brings "s" to current "j" and that -2d brings him to "j" at the point needed to continue correctly. Again my thanks! Lou
