If a question asks, what is the number of sequences of heads or tails if a coin is flipped 7 times, what is it asking for? I am confused if this is permutation or combination.
Am I to find the different ways each flip could go if done 7 times and then add the different sets together?
i.e.
HTTTTTT+HHTTTTT etc.

The number that the question asks for is   = 128.


Each sequence is the word of 7 symbols, written using only TWO symbols H or T.


So, each position of such a 7-symbols word is the letter H or T.


And the full number of these words (= of these sequences) is   = 128. 


It is the number the question is asking for.      ANSWER

The outcome can be one of two ways for the first flip and for each of those ways two ways for the second flip for a total of four outcomes for two flips. Then for each of those ways, two ways for the third flip....and so on:
