Question 1076593: The members of a consulting firm rent cars from 3 rental companies: 60 percent from company 1, 30 percent from company 2, and 10 percent from company 3. The past statistics show that 9 percent of the cars from company 1 need a tune-up, 20 percent of the cars from company 2 need a tune-up, and 6 percent of the cars from company 3 need a tune-up. If a rental car delivered to the firm needs a tune-up, what is the probability that it came from company 2?
Answer by jorel1380(3719) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The total percentage of cars needing a tune-up is (0.6)(0.09)+(0.3)(0.2)+(0.1)(0.06)=.054+.06+.006=.12
Cars from company 2 needing a tune-up represent .06/.12=0.5
If the rental car delivered to the firm needs a tune-up, there is a 50% likelihood that it came from company 2. ☺☺☺☺
