The answer is choice A.
The system of equations is
d = g-3
d+g = 187

Here's why:
The statement "Desmond's score was 3 less than George’s score" means that whatever George gets, we subtract 3 from it to find out Desmond's score.
So in terms of an equation we would have
Desmond's Score = (George's Score) - 3
From here we replace "Desmond's Score" with the letter d, and likewise we replace "George's Score" with the letter g to get the first equation to be d = g-3
For example, if George gets 50, then Desmond would get
