Question 1023218: Can some please help me with these questions! I'm lost!
Use the properties of determinants to find the following determinants without a full set of calculations!
1) |243 0 -387|
Find |26 0 -98|
|598 0 4891|
2)
|3 0 -3|
IF |2. 1. 0|
|0 -2 -1|
,then find |6 0 -3|
|4 1 0|
|0 -2 -1|
3)
If |3 0 -3|
|2 1 0|=9
|0-2 -1|
,then find
| 3. 0. -3|
|(2+0) (1-2) (0-1)|
| 0. -2 -1|

1) The value of the determinant would be 0, because of the presence of a column of zeros.
2) The first column was multiplied by 2 (elementary row operation of the second type), hence the value of the determinant would be 2*9 = 18.
3) The new second row was obtained by multiplying the 3rd row by 1 and adding it to the old second row. Any elementary row operation of the 3rd type doesn't change the value of the determinant, hence the determinant is still 9.
