Question 116198
I am comlpetley lost at how to begin to solve this problem
here is the question
4/3 = 8
-
b
the way it is written in the book is 4/3 divided by b equals 8
:
First of all let's deal with:
{{{4/3}}}
----
 b
:
Remember when you divide fractions you invert the dividing fraction & multiply
b is not a fraction however we can write it
{{{4/3}}}
----
{{{b/1}}}
:
Invert the dividing fraction and multiply:
{{{4/3}}}*{{{1/b}}} = {{{4/(3b)}}}
:
Getting back to the equation:
{{{4/(3b)}}} = 8
:
Multiply both sides by 3b; this gets rid of the fraction
4 = 8(3b)
:
4 = 24b
:
b = 4/24
b = {{{1/6}}}
:
Substitute 1/6 for b; following the rules of fractions and you will see that
4/3 divided by 1/6 = 8
:
How about this, did I shed any light on this problem for you?
