Question 700721
A ladder is 3m long it is leaning against the wall.
 The foot of a ladder makes an angle of 76 degrees with the ground.
 How far up the wall is the top of the ladder?
 Give the length to the nearest tenth.
:
picture the ladder forming a right triangle with the wall and the ground
The ladder is the hypotenuse, The side opposite (w) the angle of 76 degrees is the wall.
Sine = {{{side opposite/hypotenuse}}}
So we have:
sin(76) = {{{w/3}}}
.97 = {{{w/3}}}
w = .97*3
w = 2.9, meters up the wall
