I dont quite understand the way you have wrote your equation, but I believe the equation below is yours.

{{{(4.1*10^4)-(1*10^3)}}}

this is the same as
41000-1000

so{{{(4.1*10^4)-(1*10^3)=4.0*10^4}}} or 40000
