The <u>length was 10ft more  than 2 times the width</u>{{{highlight(x)}}}
 (2x + 10) + x = 40
       3x = 30
        x = 10ft, the width.  The length is 30ft  {{{2*10+10}}}

and...
  {{{20ft + 60ft  = 80ft}}}
