Question 278981
my homework says graph the parent functions {{{y=5x^2-10}}} this is suppose to make a parabola

{{{y=5x^2-10}}}
Find the y-intercept by substituting {{{x=0}}}

{{{y=5(0)^2-10}}}
{{{y=-10}}}

So the y-intecept is (0,-10)

Find the x-intercepts by substituting {{{y=0}}}

{{{0=5x^2-10}}}

{{{-5x^2=-10}}}

{{{x^2=2}}}

{{{x=""+-sqrt(2)}}}

{{{x=""+-1.4}}}, approximately,
so the x-intercepts are approximately

(-1.4,0) and (1.4,0)

Plot those two points on the x-axis and the y-intercept
and you get this very thin parabola:

{{{graph(400,400,-10,10,-10,10,5x^2-10)}}}
