Question 237067

Hello,
Let's start with X being the number of nickels
X-3 will be the number of dimes
X+4 will show the number of quarters
and we know there are 37 coins, so we can put this into an equation like this:
x + x-3 + x+4 = 37  Combine like terms
3x + 1 = 37  Subtract 1 from both sides will give you:
3x = 36 therefore
x = 12 Plug 12 into the above and you see theres are:
12 nickels =    60 cents
9 dimes =       90 cents
16 quarters =$4.00       This totals

              $5.50
