Question 222515
If Jay and Isabella have 59 movies together and jay has 13 more than Isabella how many movies do each of them have

Step 1. Let x be the number of movies Isabella has.

Step 2. Let x+13 be the number of movies Jay has.

Step 3. Then, x+x+13=59 since they both have 59 movies.

Step 4. Solving yields the following steps

{{{2x+13=59}}}

Subtract 13 from both sides of the equation

{{{2x+13-13=59-13}}}

{{{2x=46}}}

Divide 2 to both sides of the equation

{{{2x/2=46/2}}}

{{{x=23}}} and {{{x+13=36}}} and note total is {{{59}}}.

Step 5. ANSWER: Jay has 36 movies and Isabella has 23 movies.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
