Question 145232
How many pounds of cashews selling for 7.40 per pound must be mixed with 6 pounds of peanuts selling for 2.60 per pound to create a mixture that sells for 5.80 per pound?
-----------------
I have
7.40(X) + 6(2.60) = 5.80
-------
Comment: Your equation says:
price*amount + price*amout = price
---------------
That cannot be the correct equation.
You need: p(amt)+p(amt) = p(amt)
Value Equation: 7.4x + 6*2.60 = 5.80(x+6)
7.4x + 6*2.6 = 5.8x + 5.8*6
1.6x = 5.8*6 -2.6*6 = 19.2
x = 12 lbs. (amount of 7.40 per pound which must be in the misture)
