first you must move your "team" to the right sides. I like to think of variables and numbers as being on teams that have to get to their "teams" with the = sign between them.
so you will have to move some numbers to solve this.
It doesn't matter really which side you move, I always like to make my variable positive if I can, it makes it easier to solve later.
I would move the -4x to the right side and the -3 to the left side to get them on the right "teams"
5+3=4x      remember when you move across the = you must change the signs, as 
            I have done.
8=4x        now divide each side by 4 to get rid of the 4 that is on the x's 
             team
2 = x

check your answer by plugging 2 into the place of the x in the origional

5-(4*2)= -3
5-8=-3
-3=-3
