You are probably talking about a cube root, fourth root, etc.

For example, +root%283%2C27%29+ is a cube root. It means "what number can you raise to the third power and get 27?" Of course, the answer is 3, because 3%5E3+=+27.

As another example, +root%284%2C16%29+ is a fourth root. It means "what number can you raise to the fourth power and get 16?" Of course, the answer is 2, because 2%5E4+=+16.
