If those are the focal lengths of the mirror and the eyepiece, or the objective lens and the eyepiece for a refractor, it's
1500/9
= 500/3

Don't buy a telescope based only on magnification. The light gathering is much more important. A lot of cheap, useless telescopes are sold with big mag numbers, and they're worthless.
