If it's divided, you subtract the exponents.
6%5E8%2F6%5E6+=+6%5E%288-6%29+=+6%5E2+=+36
You can check with a calculator:
6%5E8%2F6%5E6+=+1679616%2F46656+=+36
You get big numbers, but most calculators deal with them.
If the exponents are too big, it might not work. eg,
6%5E177%2F6%5E171+=+6%5E%28177-171%29+6%5E6

And, a calculator won't help with literal exponents, eg,
6%5Eq%2F6%5Er+=+6%5E%28q-r%29
