You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First put your equation into slope-intercept form, y=mx%2Bb.
x-4y=48
-4y=-x%2B48
y=%281%2F4%29x-12
The slope of the line is (1/4) or
m%5B1%5D=%281%2F4%29
Perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals of each other,
m%5B1%5Dm%5B2%5D=-1
Then
%281%2F4%29m%5B2%5D=-1
m%5B2%5D=-4
You can use the point slope form of the line with slope=-4 and point (1,6).
y-y%5B1%5D=m%28x-x%5B1%5D%29
y-6=-4%28x-1%29
y=-4x%2B4%2B6
y=-4x%2B10
4x%2By=10

.
We can verify the solution graphically.
