You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I agree that 56 square pieces of fabric are needed. However, as I got to the end, I realized that the calculation was not necessary. Towards the end of the story we find that Doris buys large pieces of fabric that she can cut into 8 squares, so after multiplying times 8, we divide by 8 to find she needs to buy 7 of those large pieces of fabric.\r
\n" ); document.write( "\n" ); document.write( "The way I understand it, the square pieces used to make the scarves measure \"1%2F4\" yard wide by \"1%2F4\" yard long, and Doris can buy large pieces of fabric that are \"1%2F4\" yard by \"2\" yards.
\n" ); document.write( "Each of those large pieces will give her \"8\" square scarf pieces
\n" ); document.write( "(2 yards divided by 1/4 yard is 8 squares).
\n" ); document.write( "That is exactly what Doris needs to make one scarf.
\n" ); document.write( "So each large, \"1%2F4+\" yard by \"2\" yards piece of fabric Doris buys will be enough material for one scarf.
\n" ); document.write( "For 7 scarves she needs to buy 7 of those large pieces of fabric.
